We know that the Duke Orsino maintained in Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night that music was the food of love. Living so close to Cadbury World, some of us may take issue with that!
Whatever your taste, BCS pulls out all the stops (pun intended) this week, providing everybody with something. Our school organist Ashley Wagner and Roald Dahl’s chocolate river in the Dining Hall both grabbed our attention. Not at the same time, I hasten to add!
Yesterday our very own Ashley – Organist of Birmingham Cathedral in his spare time (!) – treated us to the first of a series of recitals which are to take place each half term, on a Friday afternoon. These recitals will feature a range of different instruments, and I know that they will entertain and inspire our children. Tying in with the first of these, we are happy to announce a new organ scholarship. This will be open to pupils in Year 4 and 5. Further details from the Music Department will follow shortly.Â
With less than two months to go before Bonfire Night, it was wonderful to see new members coming forward to support our thriving parents association, The Friends. Having officially welcomed Sophia Ahmed as Chair, we discussed many upcoming events, starting with our own Fireworks Extravaganza on Friday 10 November. This promises to be an exciting evening with lots of yummy food stalls and plenty of glow-in-the-dark toys and accessories for the children to enjoy. Further details will be shared soon, but I look forward to seeing you at not only this event, but all the others listed on the Michaelmas online calendar.
It was great to engage with the Year 1 and 2 parents during our English information morning. Many thanks for the positive feedback. We do set aspirational targets for our children and the support of the parents is greatly appreciated.Â
I have immensely enjoyed my weekly assemblies with Pre-Prep. This week we focused on the ‘Most Damaging Weapon’. You will be surprised at what this is! Do discuss with your children; the sentiment is pertinent to us all.
Many Prep parents attended our first one-to-one device information and training day. Building on the great presentation by the Vice President of Showbie, Mr Newman and the team gave an excellent presentation on our new Apple innovation. If you missed this one, there will be another opportunity to watch in the comfort of your own home in due course.
This week, Year 3 and 4 represented their new Houses with great desire and determination as they took part in the Harrison Mile, a race that signals the start of the cross country season.Â
Once again this week’s House Suppers were well attended. It was the turn of Birmingham House on Tuesday, represented by Mrs Sommerville and House Captain Aria, followed by Mrs Walker and Jasper for Cathedral House on Wednesday. These evenings have been a joy. Thank you to the parents for the kind letters. Your encouraging words mean so much to my hard-working team.
I send all the very best for a successful outcome to our Year 6 children sitting the Birmingham Grammar 11+ exam this weekend Believe it! Achieve it!
Happy weekend to all.
