Welcome to another instalment of the BCS weekly roundup, where we blend achievements, community spirit, and a dash of humour to brighten your read! Let’s dive into the bustling life at The Blue Coat School, which seems to be a delightful concoction of budding mathematicians, environmental enthusiasts, and spirited bingo players.
The week started on a high note with Emily, Sonam, Paul, and Sahib making their way to the prestigious KES for the Year 5 Maths Challenge. Under the watchful eyes of Mr. Wood, our pupils exhibited exemplary conduct, proving once again that not only are we good at crunching numbers, but at winning hearts too. According to Mr. Wood, they performed brilliantly, showcasing BCS’s finest decorum and intellect.
Meanwhile, Nursery had their eyes set on the planet, celebrating World Earth Day with a “wow day” filled with activities designed to instil a love and respect for Mother Earth in our youngest learners. It’s a day where we hope to spark the flame that might one day turn one of these tots into the next Greta Thunberg—or at least someone who remembers to recycle their rubbish.
In a quieter part of the School, the Year 2, 3 and 4 children undertook their ESB exams. If nerves were frayed, the results didn’t show it. Feedback from assessors was first-rate, reflecting the hard work our children put into honing those crucial soft skills. It’s heartening to see resilience, confidence, and self-belief being built from such a tender age. In the adult world, we call these the cornerstones of success.
After the cancellation of the previous week’s Bingo night, we roared back to life, bringing together all six houses for a night of fun, laughter, and togetherness. And let’s not forget the pizza—kudos to our wonderful catering team for turning flour and cheese into rounds of applause! It was definitely a full house!
The social calendar for parents is just as packed, with many attending The Friends’ coffee morning on Friday. These gatherings are a fantastic way for parents to mingle and perhaps share their own bingo strategies or debate the best tactics for supporting our future netball stars. Speaking of which, today our Year 5 girls are going to see the Severn Stars in action during a NSL netball game. We can’t wait to hear the glowing reviews from the game. Big thanks to our Sports Department for always finding ways to ignite passion for sports among our pupils.
As we wrap up the week, our Year 2 and 3 cohort are joining forces for a Summer Film Night, an event that the children find immensely entertaining, especially for those stepping up to Prep come September. It’s a gentle nudge in the School’s social ladder, but an important one!
And as for me, your humble narrator, I’m off to a rugby tour with Jasper. Whether I return with all my limbs intact or just a bruised ego, remains to be seen. Wish us luck!
Happy weekend, everyone!
