Ah, the luxury of a long weekend! That delightful extra Bank Holiday Monday was a well-deserved treat. I can scarcely believe it’s been a year since King Charles’ coronation — how time flies! Blink, and it’s already exam season again at BCS.
This week, our valiant Year 5s hunkered down in the School Hall for their exams, already gearing up for their senior school assessments in the Michaelmas term. Not to be outdone, Years 3 and 4 rallied with their end-of-term assessments. It’s never the easiest time for the children, but feedback suggests they worked hard and stayed focused. I always remind them that assessments are as much about celebrating success as they are about learning from misconceptions. What seems like a bump in the road can often lead to positive growth.
Although this was only a four-day week, BCS managed to pack in five days’ worth of activities. On Tuesday, I headed to St. George’s Park, home to England football. As a Scotsman, I hate to admit it, but the place is truly breathtaking. Our Year 6 boys represented the School on a national level with pride and determination. While they didn’t qualify for the group stages, they fought like warriors and should be incredibly proud of their contribution. Kudos to Mr Protherough and Mr Melia for their coaching and to all the parents for cheering them on.
Our talented Year 6 Mathematicians also took part in the National Online Maths Quiz. The questions were more GCSE than Year 6 level, but these prodigies tackled them with great aptitude and dedication. They showcased the high expectations we have at BCS, and we owe a big thank you to Mr. Wood for supporting them. All four teams have qualified for the finals, what an achievement!
In Pre-Prep, my weekly Assembly was, as always, a highlight, filled with joyful singing and lots of fun. I love asking the children about their inspirations and future aspirations. Astronauts, doctors, scientists, pilots — these children have grand dreams! If BCS has its way, they’ll conquer the future.
Year 1 and 2 had their share of adventure, visiting Umberslade Farm and the Frank Chapman Outdoor Centre, respectively. They embraced nature and the great outdoors while learning about teamwork. A huge well done to Mrs Wingfield and Mrs Ryan and their teams for organising these outings. Meanwhile, Year 2 also immersed themselves in an African drumming day, tapping into their rhythmic talents with catchy beats.
With Prep School residentials on the horizon and our calendar brimming with opportunities for your children to shine, we encourage you to attend these events and cheer them on.
Have a wonderful weekend, and to those families with older siblings sitting A-levels, IB exams, or GCSEs, we’re thinking of you. Best of luck!
