As I sit down to share the highlights of our penultimate week this half term, I can’t help but marvel at the tireless enthusiasm and grit our children display. It’s a reminder that “Success is no accident. It is hard work, perseverance, learning, studying, sacrifice and most of all, love of what you are doing or learning to do” – Pele. This week, our children embodied every bit of this spirit, making it a week to remember.
Let’s start with our adventurous skiers who, under the vigilant eyes of Mr Morgan and Miss Tucker, set off to Hemel Hempstead on Monday. Participating in the IAPS indoor skiing competition, our children showed impressive skill and determination. I’m thrilled to report that the feedback was unanimously positive across all year groups. A hearty well done to Team BCS for swooshing their way to success!
Music filled the air on Tuesday and Thursday with the Year 6 and Year 4 music recitals, which were nothing short of spectacular. The talent displayed by our pupils was simply sublime. From Handel to Beethoven, the range and quality of music not only inspired the adults present but also lit a spark of aspiration among the other students. Congratulations to our young maestros who proved to be true role models.
In the middle of the week, we were delighted to welcome Mrs O’Malley, the incoming Director of Music. Her interpersonal skills and meticulous attention to detail left a strong impression, and we are excited about the direction in which she will take our musical legacy.
Thursday brought an emotionally charged Founders’ Day Service at St. Philip Cathedral. Both our Senior and Chapel Choirs performed exquisitely. It was a particularly sentimental day for our Year 6 students, marking their transition towards the end of their journey at BCS. Conducted by Bishop James and Fr Andrew, the service was a beautiful homage to our School’s storied past and our pioneering new mixed-gender houses.
Our week of celebrations concluded with the Year 2 joining Year 3 and 4 for their own Founders’ Day Service in Chapel on Friday. It was a service filled with reverence and a fitting end to a week dedicated to our founding fathers.
On the sporting front, a shout-out to our U11 cricketers who are gearing up for the Malvern College 8’s this weekend. We’re also cheering for Tom and Alice, who will be competing in the IAPS National Triathlon at Monkton Combe School. Go BCS!
To cap off, I must share a snippet of academic brilliance from Alayna in Year 6. Her essay, ‘The Bullet,’ is a testament to the high academic standards we cherish here at BCS. It truly is an academic masterpiece!
As next week promises to be just as eventful, I will be writing to you from France, accompanying Year 6 on their annual residential.Â
Happy weekend everyone!
