As the curtains draw on another bustling week at The Blue Coat School, we dive into the Lent half-term break with hearts full of joy and minds brimming with memories. From the hallowed corridors of our School to the snowy slopes of Serre Chevalier, France, it’s been a half-term of laughter, learning and leaps (both metaphorical and literal on the ski slopes!).

This week, we shone a spotlight on Children’s Mental Health Week, embracing the essence of pastoral care that our School is renowned for. Our teachers, those tireless champions of our children’s wellbeing, outdid themselves with an array of activities that not only bolstered our kids’ mental health but also emphasised the significance of understanding and addressing mental health concerns. The message was clear and loud: “My Voice Matters!”. And indeed, it does. In a world bustling with expectations, teaching our children the value of openness and the art of listening is a mission we hold dear. This week was a testament to our ongoing commitment to ensure mental health is not just a once-a-year conversation but a daily practice.

While mental health took centre stage at home, a group of intrepid Year 6 explorers, led by the dynamic trio of Mrs Bennett, Mrs Sommerville, and Mr Newman embarked on the inaugural ski trip to Serre Chevalier, France. The updates and photos flooding in have been nothing short of exhilarating, painting a picture of joy, camaraderie, and the kind of memories that stick with you for a lifetime. It’s safe to say that the slopes didn’t know what had hit them!

Not to be outdone, the home front was buzzing with achievements of its own. Our chess enthusiasts, under the guiding light of Mr. Fallowfield, clinched the second spot at a regional event in Solihull School. Their focus and dedication were a sight to behold, earning them well-deserved accolades and probably a few extra chess puzzles as homework (kidding, Mr. Fallowfield!).

The pièce de résistance of the week was, without a doubt, the Year 4 production of ‘The Pied Piper’. The children, with their boundless energy and talent, turned the stage into a portal to Hamelin, introducing us to the Pied Piper himself and the horde of rats he controlled. Last night’s performance was nothing short of spectacular, leaving us in awe and a tad envious of their singing and acting prowess. I am certain that tonight’s performance will be as spectacular as the first. A standing ovation to Mrs. Creaton, Mr. Wood, and everyone who poured their heart into making the evening unforgettable.

As we bid adieu to this half-term, filled with both accomplishments and learning moments, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to you, the parents, for your unwavering support. It’s your belief in our vision that enables us to soar higher and dream bigger.

Enjoy the half-term break, recharge those batteries, and maybe, just maybe, practise a little bit of that Pied Piper magic at home. After all, as the children reminded us, the power of community and love is important to living a happy and fulfilling life.

Happy half-term, everyone!
