Where has the time gone? Seriously, if anyone finds it, please let me know. It seems like just yesterday we were starting the academic year, and now we’re already in the final stretch. It’s been an exciting and busy time, so let’s dive into the highlights!
First off, a massive congratulations to all our Year 3, 4, 5, and 6 cohorts who recently completed their residential trips. These adventures are not just about having fun (though there was plenty of that!); they’re also crucial for building independence and resilience. A huge thank you to all the staff who worked tirelessly to make these trips a roaring success. Your hard work and dedication truly paid off.
Back at school, we’ve certainly swung back into the thick of things with a bang. In just one week, we’ve had cricket matches, swimming galas, a Thanksgiving service, a Year 2 welcome to Prep information evening, and a prelude concert. Just a typical week at BCS, right? The energy and enthusiasm have been palpable, and it’s been fantastic to see everyone so engaged and active.
Our children have been exceptional ambassadors for BCS, particularly in sports. It’s been magnificent to witness so many children representing the School at various levels, including high-profile IAPS national events. Their sense of pride and dignity shines through in everything they do. Whether in cricket or swimming, our pupils have flown the BCS flag brilliantly. Well done to each and every one of you!
It would be amiss of me not to congratulate our U11 girls and boys cricket sides who won the Regional IAPs Hardball cricket tournament and the ESCA Hardball Regional Cup. Both are prestigious national events that reinforce the hard work of staff at BCS and the commitment of our wonderful cricketers here at the school. It has been an immensely proud week for us all!
Speaking of pride, I had the pleasure of meeting Year 2 parents—both new and familiar—at our annual Welcome to Prep information evening. Transitioning to Prep is a big step, but our team here makes it smoother and more supportive each year. My message to the parents was simple: enjoy and embrace this time. Before you know it, your children will be leaving BCS or, even more frightening, heading to Sixth Form and visiting universities. I’m not ready for that yet!
The Upper School Prelude concert was, as always, a joy to behold. The musicianship was exceptional, and I found myself pinching myself at the level of talent and dedication on display. The children’s commitment to their music is truly spectacular, and it’s wonderful to see our music programme going from strength to strength.
Finally, we had a heartfelt and emotional farewell with a Thanksgiving Service for Mr Nicklin and Mrs Redfern, who together have dedicated 42 years of service to BCS. It was a touching event with Year 5 and 6 children, Old Scholars, and parents all coming together to say goodbye to these inspirational teachers. They will be greatly missed but will always hold a special place in the heart of BCS.
And just when we thought the term couldn’t get any busier, we’ve got the snap General Election coming up on July 4th! Because, why not throw a little political excitement into the mix? It seems the universe has decided we need just a bit more to keep us on our toes. Who knew we’d be ending the School year with a bit of election fever?
So, as we head into the weekend, let’s take a moment to appreciate all the incredible achievements and memories. Here’s to a fantastic final half term, and happy weekend to one and all!
