After the outstanding news that both our U11 girls and boys became IAPS cricket champions, Malvern College Champions, and English Schools Cricket Finalists, one would say it was a stellar year for our Year 6 pupils on the cricketing front! Not only in cricket, but they have succeeded magnificently in their senior school exams as well. This achievement, coupled with the stunning music at the BCS Music Scholars Graduation Concert in Chapel on Thursday evening, has made this year truly remarkable. The music was spine-tingling and well beyond the capabilities one would expect from 10 and 11-year-olds.

BCS is in a strong place right now. Although not complacent, we are focused and determined to provide children the opportunity to fly. The Year 6 children, on the whole, have been super role models for our younger pupils. This is so important in life: to be able to look up to others and believe that with hard work and determination, we can achieve great things. In a society that often lacks strong role models, it is crucial that we provide these real measures at BCS.

It was delightful to welcome Year 3 grandparents to BCS on Tuesday to celebrate their involvement in their grandchildren’s lives. I must say, I must be getting older as the grandparents looked far too young to be bracketed in this category! The feedback was strong. The children and their grandparents enjoyed a wonderful concert and afternoon tea, befitting a King and Queen. Thank you to Mrs Ayub, the Year 3 team, and all catering staff for a first-rate family event.

Following the senior swimmers’ exploits at the Olympic Pool last Saturday, where personal bests were torpedoed by our swimmers, our Year 4 House Swimming was a hotly contested event with excellent sportsmanship. The children did superbly well.

This week also saw Pre-Prep Sports Day, one of my favourite events on the calendar. It was great to see so many parents enjoying the event and cheering on the children. The smiles on the children’s faces said it all. Well done to Mrs Fletcher and the Pre-Prep staff for such a wholesome event.

Additionally, this week saw Mrs Newman and the language ambassadors host a House Languages Competition. The children were set challenges akin to Mastermind. The six highest scorers in each year competed in a final this morning, with the winning House receiving 50 House points. I am delighted to announce that Birmingham House waved their yellow flag in triumph as they were crowned as this year’s House Languages Competition winners. Congratulations to them.

Finally, I want to wish everyone a lovely Father’s Day to those who can celebrate. Let’s also remember those families who will be feeling sad this Sunday due to loss. Below, I have penned a little poem for fathers on earth and above; enjoy!

A Father’s Day Hug

For Dads who play and laugh and cheer,

And for those we miss, yet feel so near,

Today’s a day to love and say,

Happy Father’s Day in a special way.

For Dads who teach us how to fly,

And those who watch us from the sky,

Your love is strong, it never fades,

In every heart, your spirit stays.

With hugs and kisses, and lots of fun,

We celebrate each Dad, every one.

For here on Earth or up above,

We feel your endless, boundless love.

Have a wonderful weekend, everyone.
