Welcome back to another edition of my weekly blog, which aims to keep you in the loop with all the exciting happenings at BCS.

After last Friday’s soaring Friend’s Fireworks Extravaganza – and my thanks go to Sophia Ahmed and her dedicated team who orchestrated a truly spectacular event – the School is back to earth in its regular routine. As our children sparkle in their different ways and activities, the Guy Fawkes feedback continues to be overwhelming, underlining the fact that the four-year wait for such an occasion was indeed worth it. Here was an evening that created beautiful memories for everyone involved.

As the vision of the leaping flames diminishes and the whiff of the roman candles and Catherine Wheels fades, I am reminded of a quote from 19th century Prime Minister Benjamin Disraeli, who said: “Courage is fire, and bullying is smoke”.  How appropriate was it then that in the wake of some unedifying behaviour near the Cenotaph in London, our focus shifted to National Anti-Bullying Week. Mr Hulburt led the charge, organising various colourful and creative activities. On Monday, the School proudly sported odd socks to emphasise our commitment to zero tolerance for bullying. Reinforced over a five-day period filled with valuable lessons were the principles that we try hard to instil in our children: kindness, respect, and standing up against bullying behaviour.

Sports have been a highlight too, our under-11 boys showcasing heart and skill at the IAPS Rugby competition, gearing up for Roslyn Park in the new year. Notable performances abound in a variety of fields. The under-11 girls hockey team secured a compelling 2-0 win against the Downs, Malvern, and our dedicated swimmers impressed against Solihull Prep School. Kudos to all our sports teams for their hard work and passion. You make us proud.

In the realm of music, our Year 5 students treated us to a delightful recital on Tuesday, where they showcased their talent and passion for various instruments. Wednesday evening was graced by our Music Scholars, whose outstanding performances left a lasting impression on visitors from local Senior Schools. The standard of musicianship at BCS is very remarkable.

A spirit of camaraderie was evident as Year 3 and Year 6 House buddies enjoyed a ‘Buddy Brunch’ on Wednesday and Thursday. Mrs. James’ wonderful initiative provides crucial support for younger children within the Houses, fostering a sense of safety and support. Thank you to our Year 6 children for embracing this initiative and supporting their younger partners so well.

Today was a bustling day with our School Leaders orchestrating an excellent assembly for Children in Need. The children, dressed in their own clothes, raised money for this important charity and enjoyed Pudsey biscuits courtesy of Mr. Moss and the Catering Team.

As we wrap up the week, we extend our best wishes to our Year 5/6 cross country runners as they compete in the annual RGS cross country event.

Here’s wishing everyone a wonderful weekend.
