U10 Rugby v Warwick Junior School

Players of the Match: Monty, Adam and Eesa

The U10 rugby team hosted Warwick on a drizzly day in muddy conditions at BCS, perfect for a game of rugby. All players started excellently putting into practice their hard work over the term with some excellent forward running and commitment towards tackling an opponent to bring them to the ground. It was great to see players competing in a 1 man ruck as this had been the addition of the rules at the U10 age groups and players are grasping this opportunity within games. There were impressive performances from several players across the games including Roux, Monty, Jacob, Eesa, Thomas, and Adam who all ran forwards at speed, tackled with determination and were quick to the ruck to attempt to protect the ball or turnover possession.

U9 Rugby v King Henry VIII

The U9 team at Blue Coat is making impressive strides in their grasp of rugby. They demonstrated commendable attacking skills against King Henrys, showcasing excellent line-running and support for each other on the field. However, there’s still room for growth in bolstering their confidence when it comes to defence.

U9 Hockey v RGS: The Grange

Miss Tucker’s Team

Result: 4-3 Blue Coat win, 2-1 Blue Coat win

Players of the Match: Annabel and Sukhmani

What an awesome afternoon of hockey! Both teams demonstrated brilliant team work and game understanding. The girls were able to quickly make decisions on the ball, making varied passess to their team mates.  Both teams utilised their player on the wing to drive down the pitch and inject the ball into the shooting circle. Defensively, the girls progressed as the game went on, the girls were able to have one player going to the ball and the other players picking up spare players. This prevented RGS from scoring goals in the final minutes of the game leading to two wins! Well done all, you should be very proud of yourselves.

U8 Hockey Festival

Result: Both teams unbeaten

The festivals we enter are created for an introduction to tournament style competitions and ultimately to play lots of hockey and have fun. There were four schools that attended and we played all schools and came out unbeaten in both pools. There were some fabulous team goals scored and it was great to see how Miss Tucker’s work with them was showing through. This was a great show of skill and of how much the girls have improved over the term. I was really impressed with how each pupil rotated roles and was happy to play as a team. This is a great characteristic they are displaying at such a young age.

U11 Rugby v King’s Hawford and RGS: The Grange

A wonderful afternoon of rugby took place at BCS on Wednesday against Worcester’s pre eminent prep schools. In the first match, the boys played very well however a couple of stray passes gave King’s Hawford opportunity and they capitalised, gaining revenge for their defeat last week at IAPS. In the second game against RGS, the boys really showed their ball playing prowess and ran out comfortable winners. The biggest difference in the two games was actually attitude. In the first game, the boys were distracted but in the second game, they were fantastic and pulled together as a true team should, let’s take this attitude into Warwick next week!

In the second tournament hosted by BCS, the U11 Rugby team showed a reverse of the first tournament. In the first fixture, the boys started electrically full of forwards running and bit hits when tackling to be victorious against a competitive King’s Hawford team. In the second game, the team were slow, sloppy, and unreactive to any tackles or rucks, albeit against a physical RGS: The Grange team. Plenty still to learn about how to conduct themselves during tournament sport. Star player was Alessandro who was full of physicality, running, and determination all afternoon.

U8 Rugby v Bilton Grange

On Thursday afternoon, Year 3 hosted Bilton Grange in a festival of Rugby at BCS. Every pupil in Year 3 played a fixture against Bilton Grange showcasing their learning throughout the year. The players were full of forwards running trying to evade opponents to score tries for their team or they were showing determination in their defensive play to attempt to get a two handed touch to prevent an opponent progressing towards their try line. The year group has shown excellent progress throughout the term and are consistently applying this into competitive situations. Focus turns to House matches next week before a final fixture of the term the following week with more chances to demonstrate their rugby skills and knowledge.

U11 Hockey v RGS

Result: 2-1 Blue Coat win, 2-2 draw

Players of the Match: Mischa and Amadora

Two fantastic, very competitive games of hockey! The girls put on a fantastic spectacle showing how much progress they have made over the term. Their work rate was excellent and probably won us the game. The girls are now starting to play nice hockey, play the ball wide, look up and give a pass and strike hard at goal, it made Mrs Bennett and Miss Crews very proud.
