U11 Boys’ Cricket Malvern Eight8

The U11 cricket teams travelled to Malvern College to participate in the Malvern Eight8 competition. There were two teams competing in two different groups. One team was placed in a group with West House, Prestfelde, Winterfold, and The Downs. Two great victories versus Winterfold and The Downs with the latter being off the final ball of the game and two defeats ensured this team finished third in their group to play against third from the other group in the Plate Final against Hallfield. Despite a spirited display, the team were defeated but some great learning and progress made with notable contributions from Kunal, Noah, and Aarav throughout the day.

The other team were placed in a group with Packwood Haugh, Moor Park, The Elms, and Hallfield and won all four games with an enthralling game versus Packwood Haugh winning off the final ball of the innings. This ensured the team finished first in their group and progressed through to the final verus Prestfelde. Batting first, they scored 65 off their 8 overs with some smart running between the wickets and glorious cricket shots from Kavidh, Jovan, Henry, and Archie. A tight bowling performance was needed and despite a wobbly last over the bowlers of Archie, Kavidh, Sahib, and Henry bowled with discipline supported by a fantastic fielding display to ensure the team were victorious by 15 runs and bought the trophy back to Blue Coat for the third year in a row.

A massive thanks to the players for an excellent day of cricket and well done to Kavidh who was voted by tournament organisers as Batter of the Tournament.

U8 Cricket v Warwick

The U8 girls put in a fantastic team performance to secure a win against Warwick. There were some strong contributions throughout, with growing confidence evident in both batting and fielding. Amrita took a wicket with the first bowl of her over and Jocelyn was named Player of the Match after hitting two superb boundaries for 4, showing great timing and technique.

While the girls showed lots of enthusiasm and teamwork, there are still areas to develop. We need to focus on improving the accuracy of our bowling and making quicker decisions when running between the wickets after hitting the ball.

A great result and plenty of positives to build on – well done, girls!

Player of the Match: Jocelyn

U11 IAPS Cricket

The U11 girls took part in the West of England IAPS Cricket Festival at Bristol Grammar School.

After the long drive, the 1st game was a nervous low scoring affair where we restricted the Downs to a score of 28, we bowled well but the fielding was a bit sloppy as it seemed to take a while to get the journey out of our System. We went into the last over winning by 5, but their opening bowler came back on and got a wicket 1st ball to make the score level. Thankfully Ree and Freyer held their nerve and after a great boundary by Ree we just got over the line.

The 2nd game against Cheltenham College was a very different match where batting first we scored an impressive 54, all pairs batted well with Summer and Ree hitting their fair share of boundaries whilst the others ran very well between the wickets. Again we bowled well and Cheltenham fell about 20 short.

The semi final against the Dragon School was the best game of girls cricket I’ve seen, batting first we were restricted to a score of 28 thanks to some good bowling but also some Kamikaze running. The bowling though was simply magnificent with Ava taking 3 wickets in the penultimate over to put us in a strong position.

So to the final where again we didn’t bat as well as we can do and we had a few silly run outs which cost us as we lost 7 wickets in 8 overs. This time though we weren’t quite able to peg them back as King’s Hawford batted sensibly and ran out deserving winners. They probalby had the outstanding player of the tournament who bowled like lightening and was also able to hit sixes which rarely happens at this age.

Overall the girls should be very prous of their efforts. It is impossible to give a player of the tournament award, and it would be unfair as in different games they all stepped up and delivered high quality cricket. Ava and Freya’s death bowling, Emily’s leg spin bewitching the batters, Pippa’s great line and length, Summer, Louisa and Ree’s abiltiy to hit boundaries, Sonam’s smooth rythmical action, Alice’s energy in the field and accurate bowling all contirbuted to a great day, the one player missed off that list though was Captain Kitty, who does deserve special praise for both her batting, but also her captaincy which was exceptional, she has a really good grasp of the game which is rare in one so young. Well done all!
