U10 Hockey v Bromsgrove

This was a great start to the season for the girls with high tempo game going forwards. Alice and Amelia were nimble in their movement down the wing with the support of Sukhmani driving forwards through the middle. Alice scored the first goal after Kimran’s attempt was saved. The second goal came from a penalty corner which was pleasing to see as Amelia struck the ball well to put it passed the keeper. At half time, after a few changes, we looked a little out of the game so going back to the original set up meant Jaya and Yuli were back comfortable with the team line up and supported the play from the back. Amber nearly got a touch, her moment of glory but Yuli intercepted the shot and cleared the ball for Sukhmani and Amelia to link again and for Alice to shoot the third goal.

U9 Rugby Festival

The U9 Rugby teams travelled to King’s St Alban’s for their second festival of the year. With three teams playing, the boys have shown great progress from their first festival two weeks ago and are really adapting to contact rugby with some excellent tackling and forwards running from the players. There were some brilliant tries scored during the afternoon which were made possible by players learning when to time their pass to a player in a good position.

U11 Rugby v Bromsgrove

The U11s played two good games against Bromsgrove and HCS. There were some very good bits of play and some players really stood up and showed they had the willingness to be confrontational and thrived on the physicality. Emmanuel was one of these, he has come on leaps and bounds this term and thoroughly deserves his spot in the A team. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for a number of players within this squad with a huge number dropping out and letting their teammates down. We have built a reputation of playing high pace, offloading rugby over the last few years, which has proved very successful, but at the moment the lack of commitment being shown by numerous players is really hurting the team. Playing for the School should be seen as an honour not an optional extra and I hope that after the exams this weekend we get better buy in as otherwise some may find themselves playing what they see is below their level due to their lack of commitment.

U11 Hockey Tournament

This hockey tournament showcased our team’s strong attacking play and an impressive overall performance. Throughout the league round-robin stage, we demonstrated consistent form, utilising quick, precise passes and well-timed attacks to create multiple scoring opportunities. Our attacking strategy was effective, often putting the opposition’s defense under intense pressure, allowing us to capitalise on our speed and teamwork.

In the opening matches, we maintained excellent control of possession, working the ball through midfield and creating clear chances on goal. Our players executed well-rehearsed attacking patterns, resulting in a solid number of goal scoring opportunities. The interplay between the forwards and midfielders was a highlight of our success in the round-robin, as they constantly exploited gaps in the opponents’ defence to create promising attacks.

Despite the strong attacking play, we could have improved our finishing in front of goal. While many chances were created, a higher conversion rate would have put us in an even stronger position heading into the knockout rounds.

After a strong showing in the round-robin stage, we advanced confidently to the semi-finals. However, in this crucial match, we faced a well-drilled RGS team. They were exceptionally organised defensively and nullified many of our attacking moves, limiting our goal-scoring opportunities. Their disciplined defence and quick counterattacks kept us on the back foot for much of the game. Despite our best efforts to break through, the RGS team managed to hold us off and eventually took control of the game, knocking us out of the tournament.

Our tournament run was characterised by great attacking play and effective teamwork. However, taking better advantage of our goal-scoring opportunities will be crucial for future success. The loss in the semi-finals was a tough pill to swallow, but it highlighted key areas where we can improve to achieve even greater results in future competitions.

U10 Hockey v Bromsgrove

This Monday, the girls travelled to Bromsgrove for their first away fixture of the term. The game was fiercely competitive with a lot of the play going end to end. The girls this week showed real progress. Particularly with their structure and shape. Nina and Emily particularly carried the ball down the width of the pitch and worked tirelessly to track back and defend. There were some super saves from Ree in at GK, making it difficult for Bromsgrove to finish. At half time the score was 1-0 to Bromsgrove. However, showing real grit and determination, we managed to equalise in the second half. End score was 1-1, which was a fair result. A super effort from everyone though today, a real team effort.

U8 Rugby v Bromsgrove

The U8’s had their first taste of competitive matches and did the school proud. Three mixed teams competed against both Bromsgrove and Warwick well. No scores were kept but plenty of tries were scored and the boys effort levels were exemplary. They showed good understanding of the go forward principle of play and some followed the ball in support very well. Plenty to work on but plenty of positives, well done all!

U11 Cross Country

The U11 cross country team delivered an outstanding performance at the Winterfold meet, making both themselves and the School extremely proud. Competing against older runners, each of our athletes showed exceptional grit and determination, with all participants being a year group younger than most of their peers.

The boys put in a strong showing, led by Lucas, who placed 8th, followed by Garrick in 18th, Seb in 20th, Joe in 23rd, and Josh in 29th. The girls were equally impressive, with Nina storming home in 4th place, Emily finishing 15th, Ree securing 24th, Adeline 28th, and Rose rounding off the team’s efforts in 34th.

A fantastic effort from all our young athletes—well done to everyone involved!

U10 Rugby v Warwick

The U10 rugby team travelled to Warwick and delivered an exceptional performance despite facing early setbacks. Blue Coat suffered two injuries early in the game, making the display even more impressive as the team showcased both depth and quality across the squad.

With relentless determination and grit, the boys excelled in the contact areas and defended their try line superbly, demonstrating a level of resilience and teamwork beyond their years. Throughout the match, the U10s maintained their composure and executed their skills with maturity, making it another fixture to be proud of.

Well done to the entire team for their outstanding effort!
