U10 Rugby v King Henry VIII

Despite the half term break, it was clear to see that all the boys hit the ground running and were ready to go straight back into the fixture calendar. All 3 games highlighted the progress of the boys in terms of ability and game understanding. Having mixed up the teams, this allowed pupils to play with other pupils to create further learning and opportunities of leadership. The main feedback from each game was the development of the attack, moving the ball effectively and running forward with the ball with aggression and intent. A great start to the new term.

U10 Hockey v Winterfold

Miss Crew’s Team:

Player of the Match: Flo

Blue Coat dominated from the start, dribbling the ball with pace and determination. Summer was relentless in front of goal, receiving the cross and wacking it into the goal. Blue Coat are starting to spread out more and use the width which is great to see and really helps the flow of play. A great start back to the term, well done girls!

U10 Hockey v Winterfold

Mrs Bennett’s Team:

Result: 3-2 Blue Coat win

Player of the Match: Freya

All of the team’s hard work eventually paid off in a really good win. It is not that we won that matters, it is the way in which we did it with Kitty continually dribbling the ball with confidence on the wing and how we attacked fiercely in front of goal. Freya was solid in the centre showing real dominance in her desire for the ball. Although not in her favoured position Emily looked solid in a new partnership with Sonam at the back and Brooke grew in confidence as she made some good saves to keep us in the game. This was a good win against a mixed U11/U10 team.

U8 Hockey Festival

This was a great way to start our week with 20 teams entering RGS U8 hockey. We got to play in a tournament style match but having the focus on girls having fun and getting to enjoy some healthy competition. Whilst no scores were officially kept it was great that we left the afternoon undefeated with some great goals being scored.

U11 Hockey v Winterfold

Result: Blue Coat win all three matches

Player of the Match: Ines

With three teams travelling to Winterfold we looked forward to our first match in our first week back. In all three matches BCS were more dominant and well drilled with their wide play and strength in clearances. Anika, after deciding she was able to play other positions than defence, took up great position from Ines’ crosses from wide as a forward and scored a hatrick. Not to be outdone Ines also went on to score twice and get player of the match twice.

U8 Hockey v Solihull

A great way to finish your week is taking 25 very excited year 3 girls on a big coach to play Solihull! With four matches being played at one time it was fabulous to see so much grit and determination to work hard, tackle hard and shoot hard in everyone’s faces. Even as the rain started and it got colder the desire for each child to play hockey was seen in abundance. The excitement lasted right til the end even scoring just as the final whistle blew. A brilliant afternoon for all involved.

U8 Rugby v Solihull

A fabulous afternoon of rugby took place at Solihull School where the Year 3s got to further demonstrate their understanding of the game, take part in some highly competitive games, and continue to grow their passion for the game. These festivals are brilliant because nobody keeps score so there are no winners or losers, just lots and lots of learning taking place. The boys really showed the progress they have been making on the key principles of running forward, and support with some amazing tries being scored.

U10/U11 Hockey v The Downs Malvern

Result: 2-0 Blue Coat win

Player of the Match: Alayna

This weekend, an U10 and U11 mixed team played The Downs Malvern. Due to having a big squad with a range of players, this allowed the team to try out lots of different combinations and experience playing with different people. Considering this, the whole team worked brilliantly together communicating and playing into one another’s strengths; you would have never known it was the first time some of them had played together. However, Malvern were a strong side giving as good as they got managing to win several short corners in our D. Our defence was seamless, preventing Malvern from scoring. Fortunately, the BCS girls were tenacious upfront leading to two goals being scored by Mischa and Alayna. Well done to all!
