A former pupil at The Blue Coat School, Rena has a strong understanding of the School’s history and reputation. She re-joined Blue Coat in 2009 as a Form Tutor and English teacher across the Prep School. Shortly afterwards, she became Head of English, leading the large and thriving English department for five years.

As Assistant Head Academic Development, Rena developed the Learning Success programmes across Pre-Prep and Prep, focusing on enhancing provision for children with SEND, EAL and AG&T, ensuring that individual needs were understood and met. During this time, she also established the BCS Outreach programme, developing links with maintained schools across Birmingham.

Rena believes in making a difference for every child, ensuring each one can reach their full potential. She now leads the School’s More Able provision, promoting a culture of high expectations, challenge and aspiration for all pupils, with a particular focus on raising attainment across both core and non-core subjects.

A lifelong learner herself, Rena completed a Master’s degree in Applied Educational Leadership at UCL, with a specific focus on digital teaching and learning. As a DDLS, she also forms part of the School’s Safeguarding team. She is also currently undertaking the NPQ SEN, further developing her expertise in inclusive education and strengthening the School’s ability to identify, understand and support the diverse needs of all learners.

Beyond Blue Coat, Rena serves as a governor at a maintained school in Warwickshire, helping to foster collaboration and the sharing of best practice between the independent and state sectors. She is also the IAPS Subject Adviser for Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Justice (DEIJ), supporting schools in developing inclusive cultures where all children feel valued, represented and able to thrive.

Rena is passionate about ensuring that every pupil experiences a strong sense of belonging, opportunity and success throughout their educational journey.
