The Association of Friends is a group of parents and teachers who meet on a monthly basis during term time and put on a number of very enjoyable fundraising events throughout the academic year. These events include Bonfire Night Fireworks, a Christmas Fayre, Carols & Fizz and a Summer Fayre.
With the support of the Blue Coat School community, The Friends raise funds to support and enhance the children’s school life. Recent projects have included a second outdoor classroom for the Forest School area and new seating for the Pre-Prep library. At the same time The Friends support local charities. Last academic year they were able to donate £1,400 to Open Door Counselling from the proceeds of various events.
In addition to raising funds, The Friends work tirelessly to create opportunities for social events and to bring the BCS family together whenever possible. Popular activities have been the Headmaster’s XI versus the Dads at Harborne Cricket Club and a Golfing Day at Edgbaston Golf Club.
The Association of Friends, would always love to welcome new members and volunteers. If parents are unable to join the committee and meet on a regular basis, they are still more than welcome to volunteer for individual events. To express an interest or to find out more please email the Chair of Friends, Elizabeth Lawson-Bennett: email@example.com.
A second hand uniform shop is also run by The Friends and is open on the last Friday of each month. Please contact Jules Dowell-Lee: firstname.lastname@example.org.
Due to COVID-19, unfortunately many of our traditional events have had to be cancelled. However, The Friends are working on a special surprise for our pupils linked to a certain man in red who might just be found in a grotto near Forest School…
Also, following a successful Zoom Quiz earlier this year, there is another chance for families to pit their wits against each other in an online Christmas Quiz on Sunday 6 December at 4pm.
