As Senior School Liaison, it is my job to ensure that your child’s transition to secondary school goes smoothly. Through the strong links we have forged with our local secondary schools, as well as schools further afield, we ensure that your child is fully prepared for life after BCS.Â
Parents are kept informed every step of the way. The process begins early in Year 5, with a presentation outlining the different senior school pathways. Following this, Parent Consultation meetings take place with the Senior Leadership Team and Pastoral Tutors, giving personalised recommendations about potential secondary schools for your child. Each year, the Headteacher from these secondary schools delivers a presentation to parents of children in Year 5.Â

The Blue Coat School is privileged to be surrounded by fantastic secondary schools. Although this can make choosing a senior school a daunting process. However, we provide holistic support to both the pupil and the parents in choosing the right senior school for you.
Pupils beginning Year 6 will be invited to Sprint Finish sessions at the end of the summer holidays to enhance their exam practise for both independent and Grammar School entry tests.
In the Michaelmas Term of Year 6, Maths and English lessons will be dedicated to refining the knowledge and skills which will be tested in entrance exams.
For pupils applying to independent schools, the School will provide communications workshops to support pupils with their interview skills.
As we have strong partnerships with many local independent schools, they will host sessions at The Blue Coat School so parents can find out more about their school.Â
In Year 5, parents will be invited to a meeting to discuss aspirations and options for your child to begin to formalise the application process.
Our Class of 2025 received an impressive 242 offers to senior schools, including an impressive 45 offers to Solihull School and 38 offers to King Edward’s School. They also received an outstanding 54 offers for Grammar Schools. In addition, 68 scholarship and award offers were made across Academics, Music, Sport, Maths and English.
