As I pause and reflect, it’s almost hard to believe that we are now in Week 9 of this term. Yet, when I look around, it’s clear that the children at BCS are thriving, full of joy, and continuously reaching new heights. One parent’s remark during a Nursery Readiness Morning has stayed with me: “Blue Coat is more than a School.” I couldn’t agree more. I am deeply honored to lead this exceptional School and am immensely proud of our wonderful children, dedicated staff, and supportive parent community. We are indeed fortunate.

This week was particularly special as it marked the start of my series of interviews with prospective parents, eager to secure a future for their children at BCS. It was heartening to hear them echo the praise shared by our current parents. To each of you, thank you for your trust and appreciation – it fuels our shared journey.

We also celebrated the culmination of the House Poetry competition, expertly orchestrated by Mr. Brown. The pupil’s participation has not only earned valuable points for their Houses but has imparted skills that transcend the competition itself. The ability to learn and recite poetry from memory enhances cognitive abilities, strengthens linguistic fluency, and builds confidence- skills that will serve our pupils well throughout their lives. The discipline and creativity involved in committing words to heart provide them with a foundation of resilience and eloquence that is truly invaluable.

Anti-Bullying Week took center stage as we committed ourselves anew to a culture of kindness and respect. On Tuesday, the entire School came together, wearing odd socks, a visible and playful reminder of our stand against bullying and our celebration of individuality. Spearheaded by Mr Hulbert, the week was filled with activities designed to educate, engage, and reinforce our zero-tolerance stance against bullying. Thank you, Mr Hulbert, for your thoughtful leadership in embedding these essential values.

A touch of excitement swept through our halls as we reopened the swimming pool, now boasting refurbished wet-side changing rooms, a striking new blue floor, and gleaming House plaques. While the renovations brought a temporary disruption, the result is a safer, more vibrant space that will serve our pupils for years to come. I trust that this enhancement will be a worthwhile addition to our facilities.

This week, music wove its magic through the air with two remarkable performances. On Tuesday, our Year 5 musicians delivered an exceptional musical recital, followed by a breathtaking Scholars’ concert on Wednesday. Both events were held in the newly unveiled Atrium, a space that has quickly become a hub for showcasing our talents. I must commend the children for their hard work and dedication – the music was spellbinding, and I found myself deeply moved by their passion. Indeed, music is not just an academic pursuit here; it is the very heartbeat of our School.

Finally, this afternoon marked the first cross-country event of the season at RGS:The Grange. Our young runners consistently demonstrate not only skill but a spirit of teamwork and resilience that is inspiring. We eagerly await the results of today’s race, but above all, we hope that every pupil who took part felt the joy and pride of representing BCS. Their enthusiasm and perseverance are a testament to the energy that courses through our School.

Thank you for your continued support and for being part of this thriving community. Your partnership makes BCS not just a School, but a place where children can truly flourish.

Happy weekend!
