Our 2025 Science Fair kicked off at the end of the Michaelmas Term, with our Year 6s facing the challenge of choosing a scientific question to investigate. This year’s projects exceeded expectations, covering a wide range of fascinating topics.

Pupils explored topics such as:

-Paper planes

-Gaming’s impact on reaction speed or math scores

-The benefits of background music

-Fruit and vegetable power

-Slime

-VR headsets

-The effect of blue light on sleep quality

This year, we saw an increase in particularly unique projects:

-Quake-proof building designs

-Hair strength

-Static electricity

-Could science have saved Humpty?

-Temperature’s effect on ladybird development

Some pupils created videos and presentations for judges to access via QR codes. They all followed the Scientific Method: Question, Research, Hypothesis, Method, Results, Analysis, Conclusion, and Evaluation, ultimately preparing their presentation boards.

On the day of the fair, we welcomed five judges to review the projects:

Miss Davies – Old Swinford Hospital (OSH)
Mr. Davies – Solihull School
Mrs. Dickinson – The Priory
Mr. Hopkinson – King Edward VI High School for Girls (KEHS)
Mr. Thomas – The Downs, Malvern

Each pupil discussed their project with a judge for 10 minutes, with scoring based on Creativity, Scientific Thought, Thoroughness, Skill, and Clarity. After deliberations, the judges praised the high standard of the projects and our pupil’s ability to communicate their scientific understanding.

As the School day ended, we invited parents and the wider BCS Community into the Sports Hall to view the completed projects, which reflect the Year 6’s perseverance, creativity, and scientific rigor. The pupils demonstrated the Blue Coat Values and overcame challenges with enthusiasm.

Mrs Simmons is extremely proud of each Year 6 pupils for their dedication to science this year. They are all winners, having gained invaluable experience in the scientific process.

One project, in particular, stood out for its exceptional scientific approach and reasoning, leading to Yousef being crowned the winner of the Year 6 Science Fair 2025. Congratulations, Yousef!

Selecting a winner from 80 outstanding projects was no easy task. As a result, the following students have been recognized with either Runner-Up or Highly Commended titles:

Runners Up:

Caterina, Aiden, Thomas and Roman

Highly Commended:

Zakariya, Ibrahim, Kitty, Sophia, Hannah, Joshua, Reuben, Zar, Adam, Ruby, Michaela, Alice, Reha, Gursimran, Shivesh, Emmanuel, Luca, Archie, Kara, Nishka, Raymond, Anna, Summer and Maryum
