Our 2026 Science Fair was launched to parents and pupils at the end of the Michaelmas Term. One of the greatest challenges for the Year 6s is choosing a topic – especially identifying a clear scientific question to investigate.
This year’s projects exceeded all expectations, exploring a wide range of fascinating ideas across many fields of science. Many pupils pursued topics they were genuinely passionate about, resulting in some wonderfully original projects. They also embraced technology, creating their own videos and presentations, and inviting judges to view them via QR codes.
Throughout the process, the pupils were guided through the stages of the Scientific Method: Question, Research, Hypothesis, Method (including fair testing), Results, Analysis and Conclusion. With their presentation boards complete, we were ready to host the Fair.
On Tuesday, we were delighted to welcome six judges from local schools:
Mr Davies (Solihull School), Mrs Gilmore (Chair of Governors, The Blue Coat School), Mr Hopkinson (King Edward VI High School for Girls), Mrs Jeffrey (Bromsgrove School), Ms Noble (Old Swinford Hospital School) and Miss Sidhu (King Edward’s School).
Each Year 6 spoke with a judge for around ten minutes, explaining their project. Judges assessed entries against criteria shared in advance: Creativity, Scientific Thought, Thoroughness, Skill and Clarity. After careful discussion and revisiting several projects, they reached their final decisions, praising both the exceptionally high standard of work and the children’s confident communication of their scientific understanding.
Parents also enjoyed exploring and celebrating the projects. Across the board, we saw determination, creativity, problem-solving and rigorous scientific thinking. The pupils truly embodied the Blue Coat values, approaching the challenge with enthusiasm and resilience. They have deepened their understanding of science and experienced the investigative process first-hand.
In our eyes, they are all winners and should be incredibly proud of their achievements.
A huge congratulations to the winner of this year’s Science Fair, Eva!Â
