The Dancing Bear by Michael MorpurgoÂ
Review by Eason (3EC)
The book was about a girl called Roxanne who owns a bear called Bruno. Bruno is a very special bear who can dance, so Roxanne starts a show with him and her friend, Niki, and they travel around the world together.Â
I liked it because it had a lot of friendship, which made me happy. But it also had quite a sad ending. The characters were very nice: my favourite was Niki because he was quite funny.
I would recommend it to boys and girls in Year 3 because it was fun to read.
Viking Boy by Tony Bradman
Review by Yitong (4JL)
This book is about an adventure. A boy (that’s Viking Boy) goes on an adventure to the Land of Ice and Fire. It becomes familiar at the end. But he gets a job of a slave by an evil king on the way! At the end, he goes on a boats and succeeds.
I like the adventure and also the happy ending. There is nothing I dislike about this book.Â
I recommend this to ages 7 plus, as it’s may be scary for some young people.
Waiting for Anya by Michael Morpurgo
Review by Ree (5NB)
This is a book about World War II and it shows how life for many Jews was extremely uncomfortable. In the book is a boy that goes to Christian family for a long time and finds out that they are helping Jews from all over the world.Â
I loved how heart-warming this book was and it shows that we should care about each other not judging the the colour of our skin, or religion. I was amazed with how the description in this book really sets the scene.Â
I would recommend this to anybody who loves World War books and learning about the world! This is definitely for you!
Goodnight Mister Tom by Michelle Magorian
Review by Emily (6EF)
This book is about a boy called Will who is an evacuee. His mother treated him horribly so when he comes to live with Tom [the old man] he has to learn that Tom won’t hurt him like his mother did.Â
I loved the fact that Will grew to love Mr Tom and the same the other way around. They learnt a lot from each other. I disliked hearing how badly Will got treated by his mother because it is horrible to think about.
I would recommend it to people who love reading about war. Ages 9-12.
