On Friday 13 January 2023, the licensing service for Father Andrew Hutchinson as Chaplain of The Blue Coat School, by Bishop James Langstaff, Assistant Bishop, Diocese of Birmingham, took place in the School Chapel.

The Right Reverend Bishop James Langstaff welcomed the congregation of Year 5 and 6 pupils, parents, governors and staff. If you were unable to attend the service, please watch the recording on Vimeo.

A special thanks goes to Eliza Coughlan, Aashni Shah, Hugo Brinkman and Thomas Hodges for their prayers during the service. Once again, the Chapel Choir, led by Mr Nicklin, performed the anthem, ‘O God, my heart is ready’ beautifully.

Bishop James gave a wonderful address before leading the Affirmation of Faith and the official Licensing ceremony. The Headmaster, Mr Neeson, Bishop James and the congregation were forthcoming with their willingness and welcome of Fr Andrew, who similarly expressed his willingness to accept the responsibility of Chaplain.

During the licensing, Bishop James said to Fr Andrew, ‘serve Christ joyfully’, and that sentiment was evident in Fr Andrew’s effervescent spirit throughout the service and when welcoming parents in the Boardroom afterwards.

In a letter to parents earlier this week, Fr Andrew said:

‘Thank you so much for your very warm welcome at BCS. It means so much to me. I really relish the privilege of getting to know and serve you, our pupils, staff and the wider community.’

Parents are welcome to join Fr Andrew’s Chapel services as listed on the School calendar.
