U9 Netball v RGSÂ
Players of the Match: Jocelyn, Ava H, Ava A, Avni and Liyana
Result: 3 wins, 1 draw
Five BCS Year 4 netball teams travelled to RGS for a 5-aside festival on a lovely afternoon, made even better by the welcome return of some sunshine. The girls rotated positions throughout the matches, giving everyone the opportunity to develop their understanding of different roles on court.
All teams played exceptionally well a few secured confident victories and a few narrow defeats. It was particularly pleasing to see the pupils applying our phases of play from the centre pass, moving the ball quickly and effectively into the shooting circle. Their vision across the court was noticeable, with players making the right pass early and exploiting space well.
Defensively, the girls worked hard, defending tightly and showing great enthusiasm when contesting loose balls and intercepting play. To continue developing, we will focus on clearing out effectively when not receiving the ball, ensuring players work hard to create space before driving forward to receive. Overall, it was a fantastic afternoon of netball, with great teamwork, effort and progress on display from all involved.
U11 Football v West House
Player of the Match: JoeÂ
Result: 2-1 BCS
Finally a chance to play a football match! What with the weather football has struggled for matches this year, but like good old London buses we managed to get two in two days this week!
The game against West House was a really close game where both sides had their moments, the result was probably fair but it was also a good lesson in being clinical in front of goal, hitting the post and the bar count as misses and not goals, unfortunately close is not good enough!
The most important thing though was getting some game time as playing against players who are as good if not better than you is the best way to improve. You can do all the training you want but you only really get match sharp through matches and that is why it is so important to have these games. I thought Joe worked really hard against a good defender, and Baron and Jonathan did well against some big lads in the middle of the pitch. The key is trying to be better connected as a team, but to a certain extent you only get this by playing together more.
U11 Football v WinterfoldÂ
Player of the Match: Jonathan
Result: 2-4 BCS
The game against Winterfold was a very different game as it was played on grass! The pitch was boggy and energy sapping but the boys did well considering, We made a few mistakes at the back trying to over play but sometimes the only way to learn this is to do it.
In attack, Joe worked hard and was ably supported by Nyre and Baron. Jonathan once again played well in the middle of the park and Henry was solid at the back, Adam showed good composure on the ball. Learning how to play the conditions is very important and this was a good lesson in that.
