U10 Hockey v Bromsgrove
Players of the Match: Pippa, Oona, Sophia and Jessie
Result: BCS 0-3, BCS 2-0
Blue Coat U10s travelled with two teams to face Bromsgrove in their latest hockey fixture. Both matches were closely contested, with Blue Coat winning one and losing the other. The girls showed great determination throughout, working hard to make tackles and competing strongly across the pitch. There were some excellent passages of play and moments of real promise, demonstrating their growing understanding of the game. However, at times, Blue Coat were perhaps a little too nice and will need to develop a stronger desire to win the ball. Overall, a positive performance and good learning experience for the team.
U9 Rugby FestivalÂ
The U9s enjoyed a fantastic rugby festival at Kings’ St Albans, fielding three teams across four fixtures. The emphasis was on learning and developing their understanding of the game as they continue their journey into contact rugby. Players showed growing confidence in tackling, supporting teammates, and creating space with the ball. There was great teamwork, plenty of smiles, and lots of determination throughout. It was great to see the pupils building their rugby skills, spirit, and friendships in a fun and positive environment. A brilliant day of rugby and learning for all involved.
U11 Rugby v Bromsgrove
Player of the Match: Zac
The U11s were involved in a fantastic block fixture against Bromsgrove on Wednesday where 3 teams played with passion, intensity and a huge amount of skill. In the 1st fixture, although the team lost 8-5, the boys showed immense character after conceding 4-5 tries in the first half and fighting back hard in the 2nd half making it a really competitive fixture. Zac was simply outstanding, physical in the tackle, electric with the ball in hand and destructive in the ruck, what a player! He wasn’t the only player though who came out of the fixture with great credit. Oscar had a much better game, being far more abrasive than in previous weeks.
The scoreline is only one metric to judge a performance and, at this age, the fact we made more passes, and offloads than the opposition is a great credit to these boys. What this team showed more than anything was a real desire to compete against a team where a large proportion of those boys play 9 months of the year. The one big area of development is our 1 on 1 tackling and organisation in defence, but these are things we can work on in training. The other teams showed the strength in depth of BCS rugby with both Mr Gregory’s and Mr Matthews teams gaining victories, well done all!!!!
U8 Rugby v Bromsgrove and WarwickÂ
On a bright and lively afternoon, our Year 3 pupils enjoyed their very first opportunity to represent The Blue Coat School in competitive tag rugby. With four teams travelling to Bromsgrove Prep School and four teams hosting Warwick Junior School, it was a wonderful occasion to mark the beginning of their rugby journeys.
For the boys, these fixtures were their first experience of wearing the Blue Coat colours and stepping onto the pitch in a School fixture. Nerves quickly turned into smiles as the games got underway, and the pupils showed real enthusiasm, energy and determination throughout.
At Bromsgrove, the teams embraced the challenge of playing away from home, showing excellent teamwork, growing confidence in their tagging, and some fantastic running rugby. Meanwhile, back at home, the Warwick teams were warmly welcomed, and the matches were played in an excellent spirit, with plenty of encouragement and enjoyment on display.
Across all the games, it was heartening to see the pupils putting into practice the skills they have been developing in lessons – from evasion and passing to supporting one another in both attack and defence. Just as importantly, they played with smiles on their faces and displayed the values of sportsmanship, resilience, and teamwork that we hope will stay with them throughout their rugby careers.
U11 Hockey TournamentÂ
Result: Overall winnersÂ
Our U11 girls produced a magnificent display of hockey at the RGS Tournament, ultimately being crowned champions. They dominated their league with confidence and composure, recording convincing victories over Bromsgrove, King’s Hawford, Malvern The Downs and Hereford. The semi-final saw them face Beaudesert, where they rose superbly to the challenge and secured their place in the final.
In a thrilling contest against Kings St Albans, the girls showed grit, determination and teamwork to emerge victorious and take the gold medals. Over the course of the tournament, they netted an impressive 10 goals while conceding only 2 – a testament to both their attacking flair and defensive resilience.
A fabulous fight from BCS lionesses – we are so proud of their spirit, skill and togetherness.
U8 Hockey Festival v BromsgroveÂ
The U8 girls took part in their first ever hockey fixture this week, facing Bromsgrove in a fun-filled festival-style tournament. The event featured a series of exciting 5-a-side games, allowing the girls to rotate, play multiple matches, and gain valuable experience on the pitch.
Despite it being their debut outing, the team showed brilliant enthusiasm, teamwork, and determination throughout. They made fantastic progress with each game – improving their positioning, passing, and defensive skills as the tournament went on.
It was a great introduction to competitive hockey, and we are incredibly proud of how all the girls performed. Their energy, resilience, and positive attitude were a joy to see.
A huge thank you to all the parents who came along to support – your encouragement made the day extra special!
U11 Hockey v SolihullÂ
BCS travelled to Solihull for an exciting afternoon of U11 girls hockey, with four teams playing in a series of 7-a-side matches. It was a fantastic display of effort, teamwork, and enthusiasm from all the girls involved.
There was a good mix of results across the games, reflecting the competitive spirit and balance between the sides. The BCS girls showed great energy and commitment throughout, with plenty of individual skill on show.
Tactically, there are still areas to develop – particularly around maintaining team shape and spatial awareness during transitions. Improving our ability to keep and hold structure will help us make better use of possession and space on the pitch.
In terms of technique, more focus is needed on building strength and generating power behind passes and shots to ensure we make the most of our attacking opportunities.
It was fantastic to see so many parents on the sidelines supporting the teams – your encouragement makes a real difference!
Well done to all the girls for their effort and attitude. Plenty of positives to build on as we continue to grow and develop as a squad.
