Ivan the Terrible by Anne Fine

Review by Roshan (3JO)

This book is about a boy called Ivan who joins a new school but can’t communicate because he only speaks Russian. Another boy called Boris speaks English and Russian so has to look after Ivan and translate for him. But Ivan says lots of rude things so Boris has to pretend he is saying something else instead as everyone else is very polite. Does Boris find out why Ivan keeps saying these rude things?

I liked how Boris had to quickly think and make up something different to what Ivan was actually saying!

I would recommend it to all children who like funny stories.

Into the Wild by Erin Hunter

Review by Ethan (4JL)

This book is about a regular house cat named Rusty, who has been living a normal, simple life like any other regular pet without knowing the inspiring adventure in the future with deadly clashes. One day, he meets a cat named GreyPaw who is a member of ThunderClan who unravels his new life. Long ago, four clans have shared the forest but because of betrayal, hunger and murder, they all must train warriors to prepare against conflict. When Rusty decides to move on from his soft life, he begins his journey of a hero in ThunderClan, rivalling ShadowClan. This cat has been renamed as FirePaw to confirm his role in ThunderClan, he is an apprentice to be trained. As he makes friends and foes, FirePaw may be the greatest of them all.

I liked how there is a big plot twist somewhere in this story as it was very surprising.

I would recommend this book to people who are aged 8-10 because some parts are violent and may frighten younger children.

Pig Heart Boy by Malorie Blackman

Review by Reuben (5LN)

This book is about a boy, called Cameron, who has a heart condition. Cameron and his family get an offer from a doctor. The offer was that the boy could get a heart transplant from a pig. The boy and his family accepted the offer. Will the heart transplant work?

My favourite character was Cameron’s grandma because even though she wasn’t around him a lot of the time, she understood what he was going through and helped him through the difficult times.

I recommend this book to people who enjoy emotional action stories. The suitable age to read this book is 10+ years old.
