As we close another week, let’s navigate through the whirlwind of events, both meteorological and educational, that have swirled around us. Our week kicked off under the brooding clouds of Storm Isha. As we send thoughts to those affected, we can’t help but admire their resilience and spirit.
Moving indoors, away from the dreary weather, I was gobsmacked by the news that Google’s search prowess is waning, inundated by spam. It’s like looking for a needle in a haystack, but the needle keeps moving and the haystack is getting spam mail. An expert’s call for a “foundational rethink” of web search engines had me pondering. At BCS, we’re partnering with Showbie Executives to integrate tech into our curriculum. Maybe Google should take a leaf out of our book and listen to its users more, just like we tune into our children’s voices. After all, if our little geniuses can navigate iPads better than their homework, surely a tech giant can improve its search game, right?
In a thrilling twist, our Year 5 pupils turned detectives at the Crime and Mystery Book evening, crafted ingeniously by Ms Stacey. It was an evening where Agatha Christie met Goosebumps, and the pupils’ imaginations ran wilder than a mystery novel’s plot. This event was not just about reading; it was about unlocking the creative Pandora’s box in our pupils’ minds. I eagerly await the flood of inspired stories that will surely follow. And who knows, we might have the next Sherlock Holmes in the making – deerstalker hat and all!
And now, for an upcoming global extravaganza! Mrs Newman is orchestrating the BCS International Evening on Thursday 22 February. I’m already practising my best Scottish accent for a dramatic Rabbie Burns poetry reading. It promises to be a night of cultural celebration, where our diversity shines brighter than a disco ball. Kilts, kimonos, and kurtas – it’s going to be a fashion runway of global proportions!
On the sporting front, our U11 boys are off to Repton School for the IAPS hockey finals. These young athletes have shown the determination of Olympians and the teamwork of… well, a really good hockey team. We’re rooting for a day of great plays and sportsmanship. Go well boys!
As we wrap up this eclectic week, let’s keep our spirits high, our search engines efficient (hear that, Google?), and our community united in the face of both challenges and celebrations. Here’s to a weekend of rest, fun, and perhaps a little poetry practice (just in case you’re attending the International Evening).
Stay curious, and as always, stay wonderfully whimsical, BCS family!
