There is something rather satisfying about a shorter week that still manages to be full to the brim with opportunity, achievement and community spirit. Following the Bank Holiday on Monday, the four days that remained seemed to pass in a flash, yet they captured so much of what makes life at BCS so distinctive.

Over the weekend, I had the privilege of speaking at the IAPS Teaching and Learning Festival, hosted this year at the Dragon School, where the focus was firmly on the future of education. It was both stimulating and reassuring to engage in professional dialogue about how we best prepare young people for a rapidly changing world. What made the experience particularly special was the number of BCS colleagues who gave up their own time to attend. Their commitment to continually refining their pedagogy and bringing fresh thinking back into our classrooms speaks volumes about the culture of professional curiosity we are building here.

Among the highlights of the festival was a seminar led by Mrs Ashman on neurodiversity, which proved to be one of the best attended sessions of the day. Her thoughtful and informed approach offered practical insights alongside a clear moral purpose, and it was a proud moment to see her expertise recognised so widely.

Back at School, we have much to celebrate. I am delighted to congratulate Zidaan on his outstanding success in the Poetry By Heart competition. To win at this level is a remarkable achievement in itself, but to now progress to the national stage is truly exceptional. He will perform later this year at the iconic Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre in London. We wish him every success as he prepares for this next exciting challenge.

Today, the School was alive with energy as we hosted a wonderful girls football festival. It was a joy to see so many pupils engaged with such enthusiasm and teamwork. My sincere thanks go to Avaani for helping to organise the event and for inviting Preet Gill to lend her support. Her presence reinforced the importance of promoting girls sport and encouraging participation at every level. The afternoon captured perfectly the spirit of inclusion and aspiration that we strive to foster.

Looking ahead, we wish our swim squad the very best of luck as they travel to compete in the School World Swimming Championships at the Aquatic Centre at the Olympic Park in London. Competing on such a stage is an extraordinary experience, and we are immensely proud of their dedication and determination. We have every confidence that they will represent the School with distinction and, most importantly, enjoy the occasion.

As ever, there is much to look forward to. Do remember to secure your tickets for the Year 6 production of The Lion King, which promises to be a truly spectacular showcase of talent, creativity and teamwork.

It has been another uplifting week at BCS, full of endeavour, achievement and joy. I wish you all a restful weekend.
