“Time flies over us but leaves its shadow behind.” – Nathaniel Hawthorne. So let’s bask in the sunshine of today, shall we?
Well, folks, here we are at the end of Week 2, and I’m just as surprised as you are. How is it that just yesterday we were in flip-flops, slathered in sunscreen, and chasing after ice creams that melted faster than we could eat them? Yet, here we stand, knee-deep in School routines, and let me tell you—it’s been a whirlwind!
After last Friday’s Summer Festival and the park run at Cannon Hill Park on Sunday, I felt like a character straight out of a motivational poster – full of zest and ready to tackle the week. And Week 2, you didn’t disappoint! One of the standout moments was the Year 3 and 4 Chapel service on Wednesday, followed by the Year 5 and 6 service on Friday morning. Both services kicked off bright and early at 8:40am (yes, coffee helps!), and allowed me to extend a warm invitation to all parents—of every faith and none—to come along. This week, we had the pleasure of hearing Rev Ed Stock share his thoughts on kindness, a core value of ours. His talk struck a chord, leaving a lasting impact on both children and parents alike.
This term, we introduced the Golden Brunch on Friday morning, a special (and somewhat healthy) breakfast to recognise the achievements of our pupils who have gone that extra 5%. There’s nothing quite like celebrating a job well done over fruit—especially when it’s covered in chocolate from our very own fountain! Don’t worry, the Golden Table isn’t disappearing; it’ll pop up once a half term to honour those who consistently go above and beyond in embodying our School Values.
House Suppers made a triumphant return on Tuesday and Wednesday this week. It was fantastic to meet many of you and enjoy a delightful meal together. Watching the Year 6 pupils bond with their Year 3 buddies, alongside their parents, was a heartwarming reminder of the strong sense of community we cherish here at BCS.
Looking ahead, our first Open Morning of the academic year is coming up soon. A huge thank you to all the parents who have been such wonderful ambassadors for our School. Word of mouth is powerful, and many of our visitors are here thanks to your recommendations. Your support is greatly appreciated!
Exciting times are on the horizon with the near completion of the new atrium. Once the builders finally pack up their tools (and I can stop stepping over hard hats), I’m looking forward to hosting a drinks reception for Pre-Prep and Prep parents. It’ll be a great chance to explore the new space and see firsthand the top-notch facilities our pupils enjoy here at BCS.
As we head into the weekend, I wish you all a fantastic time with your families. The Neeson household is temporarily divided, with Mrs Neeson in Edinburgh cheering on our daughter’s netball team while I head to Abingdon School to watch Jasper play rugby. Whatever your plans, take a moment to pause, enjoy, and truly live in the present. After all, these moments are fleeting – let’s make them count!
