Hansel and Gretel told by Val Biro

Review by Aafiya (3RB)

Hansel and Gretel is about two children who lived with their evil stepmother and nice father. One day they came across a house made of candy. Excitedly, they went in and that’s where all the trouble began!

I liked how the house was made of sweets and filled with mysteries.

I would recommend this book to children who like reading adventure, mystery stories.

Third Year at Malory Towers by Enid Blyton

Review by Sophia (4JL)

This term, the girls get a surprise when Darrell arrives at Malory Towers with a pretty, beautiful girl in tow, Zerelda. She is catching everyone’s eye for all the wrong reasons! Another new girl, Bill is adding to trouble to the form with her horse mad ways. There’s no head of form, Sally Hope is away recovering from a disease. The drama of the 4th form is crazy and there’s a massive match coming up for Darrell. Mrs Peters the 4th form mistress is strict and fun to play pranks on. Darrell and Alicia are always up to mischief, planning tricks here and there.

The book was very good and exciting. My favorite part is when Zerelda does something tremendously funny and makes a fool of herself.

I would recommend it to all girls above 3 because young girls might get some bad ideas if you read it to them.

Nora and the Map of Mayhem by Joseph Elliot

Review by Hannah (5NB)

This book was about a woman called Nora and two children, Atticus and Autumn. They go on rip-roaring adventures in between two days! This book starts of by convincing us to not read it and to find another book to read. I just didn’t listen. And I’m glad I didn’t. I would’ve missed out on an adventure.

I really liked this book because it shows trouble, then relief, then trouble, then relief, over and over again. You’re just relaxing then more trouble happens.

I would really recommend this book to people who like a tint of mischief and enjoy comedy and adventure.

The Wrong Side of the Galaxy by Jamie Thomson

Review by Aiden (6EF)

Harry’s had the worst birthday EVER and it keeps going downhill like a mountain – easy down, impossible up. After being abducted by Greys and surviving a plasma beam, his only companions are two identical twins, a hybrid called Gaggenow and a computer named Dave. There are also two minor issues: Gaggenow is a wanted thief convicted of stealing the Crown Starheart and they are on the other side of the galaxy! This means it is a bottomless pit. The only fortunate turn is that he is now captain of the Fartface Banana Nose. In other words, there are traps hiding everywhere, ready to ambush him in another dilemma. One final mishap:the starship has limped to a port seeking repair, but the Leptira has found them! Want to know more? Read the book and find out…

I found it really good as each chapter had me wondering’ What happened?’ or ‘What will happen next?’. It also has detailed visuals to help understand it.

I recommend it to Year 5 pupils as they may understand the plot and may be a fan of sci–fi and aliens – the basis of the story. That is why I recommend it to them in particular.
