Jack Sweettooth by Malorie Blackman

Review by Sandrine (3JO)

This book is about a mouse called Jack that ALWAYS gets in trouble. His owner thinks he swallows mum’s ruby and eats Shani’s cake. But one day Jack finds a mouse friend called Blossom, and they soon become friends!

I like the name of a mouse called ’Blossom’ in the story because the name is very lovely.

I would recommend it to people who like stories about mice.

Pet Selector! by Russell Kane

Review by Hannah (4JL)

The book is about pets, it reviews different animals and Russell Kane describes his time with the animal and what the animal can do. This book also gives a guess on whether the animal is loving, needy, and things like that.

I found this book very interesting especially when the author describes rag doll cats! I think this book can help a lot of people choose their pets.

I would say that 4 plus can read this book because any younger children might not understand some of the words Russell uses.

Pig Heart Boy by Malorie Blackman

Review by Jason (5AG)

This thriller by Malorie Blackman is truly a book worth getting out of the library. This book is about a 13 year old boy named Cameron. This book is about Cameron nearly DROWNING in a swimming pool. Cameron was fighting for his life, trying to breathe until he thought it was hopeless. He let his breath go away and embraced death. The next thing he knows is that Dr Bryce is standing with his parents telling them that Cameron’s heart is not functioning properly and he needs a heart transplant but, there are no human hearts left, only pig hearts. Will Cameron survive? Find out on the inside-flipping story of Camerons fight for life.

I think that it is a really great book especially the part about a character dying ( it actually isn’t Cameron but a wise old character). I think the ending is a bit confusing though.

I would recommend this book who anyone who likes stories about death and diaries.

There’s a Boy in the Girl’s Bathroom by Louis Sachar

Review by Jasmine (5LN)

This book is about a boy called Bradley but he has no friends. No one likes him except the new boy Jeff and the school counsellor Carla. They appreciate him for him and they find him kind and generous.

I like how his friends don’t care about what he looks like but I dislike that Bradley doesn’t feel the same with his friends. For him the hardest thing in the world is believing in himself.

I would recommend this book to people who like stories with lots of emotions but also friendship and kindness.

The Wild Robot by Peter Brown

Review by Matthew (5NB)

Underneath the cover of this book starts a journey of a futuristic plane soaring through the air which carried a mysterious metal package containing a robot. As it hovered over an island, a mounted plate of metal at the core of the plane struggled to hold the robot so it collapsed and opened a new life to the extremely puzzled robot which started in the forest. All the animals thought she was a monstrous make of technology but she studied the old language of these creatures and made unbreakable friendships. but… she didn’t know she was being hunted by something or someone.

The things I liked in this book is that the animals all had unique characteristics and that there was a beaver which chewed on wood and kept trying to accomplish his dream that was to cut the biggest tree in the forest, even though it was hard when the animals made fun of him.

I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who enjoys adventure and likes fiction. Thank you for reading my book review.

A Little Princess by Frances Hodgson Burnett

Review by Elsa (5VF)

This book is about a wealthy young girl called Sara Crewe. Her father needs to go to war and leaves Sara at Miss Minchin’s Select Seminary for young ladies. Sara becomes friends with the most unpredictable people who have been raised very different from her which proves that regardless of the situation Sara is confronted with many challenges, she always shows great kindness and a caring nature.

It is spectacular how Sara has a vivid imagination as she often creates a world of fantasy tales which paints a picture in the reader’s mind. In addition, the story takes an unexpected twist which causes great suspense for the reader! My only criticism is that the author could have used further descriptive language in describing Sara’s personality, hobbies and interests.

Overall, I would recommend ‘A Little Princess’ to readers of all ages as it is an emotional classical story with unexpected twists and turns! This is a must for readers who enjoy stories with clever themes such as: perseverance, resilience, kindness and the strength of imagination. It is a must-read for all literature fanatics.

First Class Murder by Robin Stevens

Review by Lia (5ZS)

This is a mystery book about two girls called Hazel Wong and Daisy Wells who are investigating a murder on the Orient Express. This is the hardest murder to investigate as the murderer has planned it out. My favourite character is Hazel because she is really quiet but always thinks before she acts unlike Daisy who is brave and doesn’t think before she acts so she gets into a lot of trouble often.

It is an engaging and interesting story which has a lot of twists and unexpected surprises. The author sometimes makes cliffhangers at the end of each chapter to make you want to read more.

I would recommend this book to readers who love mystery and murder as well as unusual characters.

Asha and the Spirit Bird by Jasbinder Bilan

Review by Kunal (6JM)

This book was about a girl called Asha and she is going on a journey to find her dad. Her father went to work in the city but one day, he mysteriously stopped sending letters and money. Asha gets her friend Jeevan and tells him to come with her to try and find her father. The two face fatigue, tall mountains and even snow leopards.

I liked the fact that Asha does not stop to try to find her dad. She is very persevering.

I would recommend this to people in year 4-year 6 and to people who like action and adventure books.
