The 13 Storey Treehouse by Andy Griffiths and Terry Denton

Review by Hannah (3EC)

This book is about two boys called Andy and Terry living in a humongous treehouse with a ton of unusual, crazy and fun rooms – it even has a lemonade fountain and a marshmallow machine that shoots out marshmallows into your mouth! How fun.

I like how that the book introduces the characters and the setting before it gets into the actual book and also I like that its very funny.

I would recommend this book to anybody that likes comedy and also a bit of crazy things and this book is very good to read in year 3 and 4.

Greek Heroes: Top Ten Myths and Legends by Marcia Williams

Review by Marios (3ED)

This is a non-fiction book about myths, legends, and heroes in Ancient Greece. It introduces stories like those of Perseus, Jason, Achilles and Heracles. These stories were created over 2,500 years ago to explain ideas like right and wrong, and religion. Such stories were part of education in Ancient Greece and the source of great pride for Ancient Greeks.

All the stories in the book are incredibly fascinating. I like the story of Jason. Jason was a hero who led Argonauts on their quest for the Golden Fleece. I like his leadership because it shows courage, determination, inspiration, and unity.

This is a very enjoyable read about Greek mythology for Prep students and above. As Pan says, “These myths may be ancient, but they will still make your spine tingle”.

Destiny Ink: Sleepover Surprise by Adeola Sokunbi

Review by Lulu (3JO)

This book is about a girl called Destiny. Destiny has a hamster called Fluffy. They’re going to their friend Olivia‘s house for a sleepover. They’re both really scared and make a tent inside the house because they’re going to go in a tent outside!

I think this book was a great book. It would represent how sometimes people can have fears but they can easily overcome them.

I would recommend this to people who are creative and like adventures full of mythical creatures.

The Usborne Complete Book of Chess by Elizabeth Dalby

Review by Eva (3RB)

This is a brilliant book of chess that tells us techniques, tactics and much more. I think it would be a great idea to share this knowledge with family and friends.

I have personally learnt so much from it, especially how to improve my middle game.

I recommend it to everyone as chess is such a lovable sport and I think that everyone should get a chance to try it, no matter their age.

Guardians of Magic by Chris Riddell

Review by Elizabeth (4ES)

The book is about three kids named Zam (a baker from Troutwine) Phoebe (a musician) and Bathsheba (a sword fighter).  They each had a villain to face, King rat Tiberius Tiberius, Euphimea and The Clockmaker. Along the way, they met a couple of friends for example giants, cats wearing bow ties, Cloud Horses and bears wearing tutus. They each had a special gift, made by an old lady with silvery hair, these 3 young children would join together to defeat the enemies and guard the magic of The Mysterious Tree.

I liked the bit when a mysterious thing came in the kitchen because it looked funny. I disliked the part where it talks about giant slaying because it refers to death.

I would recommend this book to anybody who likes magic and likes fighting off bad guys. I would also recommend this book to age 6+.
