This week, I found an extra spring in my step as I geared up for an exciting event. We are hosting a question time evening at BCS, featuring the standing MP for Edgbaston and Harborne, the potential Conservative MP, Ashvir Sangha as well as Independent candidate, Dr Amir and Liberal Democrats nominee, Colin Green. The discussion will cover education, crime, and the NHS; it promises to be a thought-provoking evening. I encourage many of you to join us and invite friends from the local area. I extend my gratitude to all candidates for fitting us into their busy schedules. Book your tickets here.Â
On Monday, our U11 boys showcased their skills at the English Schools Cricket Association’s regional finals at Shrewsbury School. Their focus and efforts were commendable, and I must congratulate them on a fine display. The boys won this event to become Midlands Champions; they now move on to compete in the National final at Oakham School on the 4th July.Â
Tuesday evening continued the cricket theme with our annual cricket festival where parents and staff faced off in tightly contested matches. The parents from Year 5 and Year 6 emerged victorious, demonstrating impressive bowling and batting skills. It was another wonderful community event, and I thank everyone involved for making it a success.
Reception parents were delighted to attend open swim mornings this week, observing their children’s progress. Swimming is a major strength of our School and provides our children with a valuable life skill from an early age. It’s not something to be underestimated.
Year 2 children turned their hands to tri-golf, experiencing a new sport with positive feedback all around. Our coaching team even suggested we might have future stars like Nelly Korda and Scottie Scheffler in our midst. More importantly, it offered the children an opportunity to try something new and spark interest, a very positive experience.
After the success of the Pre-Prep Sports Days, Thursday and Friday saw Prep taking the podium for their Sports Days. The events were hotly contested, with many standout individual performances. The highlight for me, however, was the House relays, which were filled with fun and camaraderie. A big thank you to the Sports Department for organising such a well-oiled event and to the parents for their support.
To round off the week, the Art Department took some of our talented artists to a jewellery workshop. The children had a fantastic experience, clearly buoyed by the opportunity to explore their creative interests.
Reflecting on the week, I am struck by the first-rate opportunities our children have at the School. The experiences and memories they are creating will last a lifetime.
Happy weekend to all!
