As we delve (at this time of the year, should that read ‘delf’?!) deeper into the festive season, it is with great joy and pride that we share the highlights of this week here at BCS – a week that sparked the spirit of Christmas within our School community.
The week showcased an enchanting series of Christmas plays, featuring our youngest stars from Nursery, Reception, Year 1, and Year 2. Each child contributed to the beautifully orchestrated performances. The plays not only showcased acting skills; they also featured spine-tingling singing that seems to grow more impressive with each passing year. Special thanks to the Pre-Prep staff and Mrs Creaton for directing four performances that were as lively as they were memorable.
In Prep, the excitement was palpable as the Headmaster’s House Cup competition intensified. The Times Table Rock Stars event saw pupils competing fiercely in a Battle of the Bands competition. Under the guidance of Mr. Wood, Head of Mathematics, our young mathematicians were engrossed in mastering their multiplication and division facts, while fervently supporting their Houses. This healthy competition is not just about learning; it is about fostering team spirit and house pride.
Adding to the week’s academic fervour, our annual Mastermind Eliminator competition was a testament to our pupils’ intellectual prowess. Children from Years 3 to Year 6 competed to represent their House in the Grand Final. The anticipation is building: who will emerge victorious this Michaelmas Term?
Thanks to your overwhelming support, The Friends’ Christmas Fayre last Saturday was a resounding success. The positive feedback has been heartwarming. Furthermore, the ‘Carols and Fizz’ event yesterday was a harmonious blend of festive music and community spirit. It was delightful to hear that our carols reached beyond the school boundaries, resonating down Harborne High Street!
Our community spirit was further bolstered by the Old Scholars who joined us for their annual Christmas Lunch today. Their stories and experiences enriched the fabric of our School’s history. Following the lunch, many attended the Lower School Advent Service in the Chapel with Fr Andrew and guest speaker, the Rev Charlie Butler from The Old Church, Edgbaston. This was a peaceful and spiritual conclusion to our week.
To cap off this eventful week, Year 5 is set for an exhilarating Sunday. With Mr. Melia and Mr. Wood, they head off to watch the European Rugby Cup match between Leicester Tigers and South African team The Stormers. We wish them a day filled with fun and memories that will stay with them.
In closing, I would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to all parents for your unwavering support and participation in these events. It is this involvement that strengthens our BCS family and makes such gatherings memorable.
Wishing you all a happy and relaxing weekend!
