The Blue Coat School Birmingham are delighted to announce that with the help of our Eco Committee, we have been awarded an Eco-Schools Green Flag Award with distinction.

The 29 members of our Eco-Committee (across Pre-Prep and Prep) have proven to the BCS community how impactful our actions are to the health of our planet.

Their chosen projects, initiated throughout the past academic year, have increased engagement across pupils and staff with positive outcomes that will continue to inspire the next cohorts of pupils.

Across the last academic year, our Pre-Prep Eco-Committee have been implementing their environmental ideas with an amazing determination. The combination of their efforts towards gaining their Woodlands Trust Green Trees Award, a Bikeathon which raised over £1000 for NICE: Centre for Movement Disorders, and the introduction of the brand new balance bikes have introduced topics such as climate change and reforestation to our youngest pupils. Combining outdoor learning with fun activities, our Pre-Prep pupils have become true eco-warriors.

Similarly, our Prep Eco-Committee had an incredibly successful year with their Walk to School Week and Switch Off Fortnight. We were delighted that in rain and shine, this year’s Walk to School week saw the majority of our pupils and staff ditching their cars and choosing a greener path to School.

With the introduction of our new secure bike store, there has also been an increase in the number of pupils and staff cycling to School and we hope to see that number increase further over the next academic year.

Each initiative our Eco-Committee has implemented has created a healthy relationship between our pupils and the environment. It is lovely to see our pupils, from Pre-Prep to Prep, caring so deeply about the world around them and being aware of how their actions can help prevent further damage to our climate.

As we begin our next academic year, we are continuing our environmental passions and will be promoting a greener lifestyle throughout the year. Well done to all those in the Eco-Committee for this recognition of your hard work.
