Malamander by Thomas Taylor
Review by Sarra-Lina (3JO)
Herbert Lemon ( also known as Herbie) is a lost and founder at the Grand Nautilus Hotel. He tries to find lost things and return them to their rightful owners. One bitter cold day, a mysterious girl scrambled through Herbie’s window in his cubby hole claiming she was lost. The girl was called Violet Parma. They were on a mission to find her long lost parents. Her parents were lost twelve years ago. Still, no one knows what had happened to them.Â
I thought it was an engrossing story. My favourite part was when Violet and Herbie got to know that the tale of the Malamander was true.
I would recommend this book to people who like fantasy and mystery, also to people who are aged seven – twelve.
Ellie’s Magic Bakery: A Royal Tea for RoyaltyÂ
Review by Elizabeth (4ES)
The book Ellie’s magical bakery a royal tea for royalty is about a girl called Ellie. She works at a bakery with her friend, Basil. But she has evil relatives who are called The Scrudges. Ellie entered a baking competition because the winner would get to go to London and she wanted to swim at the Aquatics Centre. Something amazing happens to her and her cousin (Colin.)Â
My favourite part was when Ellie and The Scrudges won the competition with some delicious food with a very big celebrity!Â
I would recommend this book to anyone who loves baking and for ages 5+ because younger kids might not know what The Scrudges are saying and it might be too advanced for the little kids.
The Ultimate Football Heroes Joke Book by Saleeh Patel
Review by Jeevan (5ZS)
This book was about lots of funny jokes that were football-related. My favourite one was ‘What do you call it when Cristiano Ronaldo wears a bucket – hat, beanie and a cap and then makes them disappear?’ A HAT – TRICK!
I found the use of the author’s use of imagination in the jokes really interesting as first I didn’t understand some of the jokes but after thinking it through a bit more they made a lot more sense.
I would recommend this book to people who have a good sense of humour.
