Cookie and the Most Annoying Boy in the World by Connie Huq

This book is about a girl called Cookie whose best friend has moved away. Then a new boy called Jake joins the same school as Cookie and he sits next to her in the classroom. This would not be a problem if Jake was not so annoying.

I really enjoyed reading this book because it was very funny and Cookie loves science just like me.

I would recommend this book to everyone who loves funny stories, the pictures make the book even more fun to read. If you like books that make you laugh you will love this.

Malamander by Thomas Taylor

This book is about a regular lost and founder of The Grand Nautilus Hotel named Herbert Lemon. His job is to receive lost belongings and return them to their rightful owners. But one day, a random girl storms into Herbie’s room and requests to be hid from a strange man with a boat hook as a hand. Soon, he discovers her name is Violet Parma who came to Eerie on Sea to search for her lost parents who vanished on the coast. Some people have some of the most strangest theories that link to Violet’s parents but the majority have the same answer…The Malamander!

But things get stranger when a beachcomber finds a large rock that glows in an ominous red light and sighted a creature prowling the coast. When more enemies and friends are made and two want the Malamander dead, can Herbie and Violet find her parents or find the ghastly truth about The Ferocious Malamander?

I like how the plot thickens each page I read. I would recommend this book to anyone who is 7-11 and is interested in myths.

Northern Lights by Philip Pullman

This book was about a girl called Lyra who went on a long a perilous journey to find a lost friend. On her way, she finds terrible scientists doing terrible experiments on poor innocent children. Lyra was disgusted by this and so she helped them all escape and she carried on her journey. When she reached the end of her adventure, Lyra feels betrayed and deceived. She makes friends and enemies but she realises that you can never trust anyone for too long.

I liked the mystery and suspense of each chapter but I disliked that it was quite slow paced and the font was very small. It was also a cliffhanger.

I would recommend it to people in Year 6 and to people who like action and suspense.
