As the pupils don their winter uniforms and the temperature heads south, spirits at BCS remain as high as ever. Last weekend saw one of the most successful Open Days in recent memory, with over 120 families visiting to explore the educational opportunities we provide.

As always, our staff were imperious in their delivery, sharing their expertise and passion with conviction, while the pupils were on sparkling form. I could not have been prouder of the way they carried themselves and of the pride they showed for their School. Visitors noticed too, and I would like to share just a few of the comments we received:

“Thank you all for having us today at the Open Day. I was incredibly impressed with multiple aspects of the facilities, the curriculum, the wider development options available but more importantly the staff and pupils.”

“We really enjoyed attending the Open Morning today and it was so informative and welcoming. We had a wonderful time exploring and getting a feel for the school, and we were very impressed by the atmosphere and the way everything was presented. Thank you for making it such a positive experience.”

“It was an absolutely wonderful day today. Thank you to you all for giving up your Saturday morning to spend time with us and to the teachers for showing us your school. Each and every child who attends Blue Coat is so fortunate to be given the best start in life. What a fabulous atmosphere exists.”

Rich praise indeed, and richly deserved. I extend my gratitude to all the parents for your unwavering support, which makes such occasions possible.

Away from admissions, Miss Crews has been spearheading the Women’s Rugby World Cup. A former rugby legend herself, she has been running girls’ taster sessions here at School, and the feedback has been tremendously positive. The Roses are on fire, and with the final against Canada at Twickenham this Saturday, I do hope you will join me in watching and willing them on to World Cup glory.

Looking closer to home, this weekend brings auditions for the newly formed BCS Players. Run by Miss Holt, herself an accomplished actor, this exciting venture will give children with a love of the performing arts the opportunity to shine. Pupils from Year 4 to Year 6 will audition before the cast list is drawn up, and I have no doubt the production will be another demonstration of our commitment to nurturing talent across every field of School life.

Today, I also enjoyed my second Golden Brunch of the term. These occasions are always a highlight for me. Over hot chocolate and cupcakes, it is a privilege to listen to the pupils talk so openly about School life and their many contributions to it. Their enthusiasm is infectious and it reinforces the immense pride they feel in being part of BCS.

Finally, as harvest approaches, may I remind families that donations for local food banks would be greatly appreciated. I am acutely aware that many households are feeling the pinch, but I know too that by working together we can help to ease hardship and provide nourishment for those in need.

Happy weekend, one and all.
