U10 Hockey v Eversfield

Player of the Match: Jessie

Result: BCS 5-4

Blue Coat U10s played a mixed-ability fixture against Eversfield and got off to a flying start, scoring early with some excellent attacking play. However, as the game went on, the team found themselves standing off a little, looking slightly intimidated by the boys’ physicality. After regrouping at half-time, the girls showed fantastic resilience and determination, rising to the challenge in the second half. They began to front up in tackles and worked the ball brilliantly around defenders instead of trying to go through them. Blue Coat won the second half with great teamwork and spirit – a proud performance overall!

U11 IAPS Hockey

The U11 girls delivered an exceptional performance at the IAPS Regional Hockey Tournament, finishing an impressive 3rd out of 16 teams. In the group stages, they started with a confident 1–0 victory over Milton Keynes, with Anai finishing clinically after a well-worked attacking move. A tightly contested 0–0 draw against Swanbourne House followed, showcasing the team’s strong defensive structure and disciplined press. In their final pool match, they were unfortunate to concede in the dying seconds against eventual champions Beachborough, losing 1–0 despite dominating large periods of play.

The quarter-final against St Piran’s was a tense and exciting encounter, with the girls demonstrating excellent composure under pressure. Eloise struck a brilliant golden goal in extra time, sealing a place in the semi-finals. Against a very strong Repton side, the girls produced their best hockey of the day – moving the ball fluently through midfield, linking well in attack, and showing superb teamwork. Despite creating several scoring opportunities, they were beaten 1–0 by an unstoppable strike from Repton’s standout player.

In the 3rd/4th playoff against Ashfold, the team showed outstanding determination, energy, and skill, working tirelessly to secure a deserved 3rd place finish. Their stick control, passing accuracy, and tactical awareness improved throughout the tournament, reflecting how far they’ve come as a group. Finishing third out of sixteen teams is an outstanding achievement and a true credit to their teamwork, resilience, and growing hockey ability.

U8 Rugby Festival

The Year 3 boys enjoyed a wonderful day of rugby at the U8 Tag Rugby Festival hosted by Warwick Junior School. It was a special occasion, marking their very first rugby festival and their first trip away together on the team bus – an experience that brought plenty of excitement and smiles before the games had even begun.

Throughout the day, the boys played a series of friendly fixtures against Warwick Junior School, Solihull Prep School, and The Croft. Each match provided an opportunity for everyone to showcase their developing skills, teamwork, and enthusiasm for the game. The focus of the festival was firmly on enjoyment, participation, and learning, and every player embraced the spirit of rugby with energy and great sportsmanship. It was fantastic to see the boys supporting each other, celebrating tries, and improving their tagging and passing as the day went on.

A big thank you to Warwick Junior School for hosting such a well-organised and welcoming event, and to all the staff and parents who supported the boys throughout the day. The team returned to school tired but full of stories, proud of their efforts, and already looking forward to their next rugby adventure.

U11 Rugby v Solihull

The Year 6 boys enjoyed a fantastic afternoon of rugby on Wednesday against Solihull. Mr Protherough looked after two teams where the boys played some amazing rugby, scoring some great tries. Yixi and Peter had excellent games with their direct running, looking to go forward at every opportunity, whilst Nyre and Zachary produced some amazing evasive runs, Samraj and Henry showed good game understanding to move the ball into space. We weren’t as good defensively as we need to be though and conceded a few soft scores.

In the other match, Adam showed great distribution skills and Jai was again a powerful runner with the ball. Riyan’s workrate was again good and he showed good skill in the contact area. Mr Matthews’ team were once again superb with Arnav showcasing his vision and catch pass skills. Lucas’s team showed a real hunger for the game and there was some excellent support play.

Well done all, a great clean sweep against a big rugby school in the area.
