U10 Netball v Solihull

Players of the Match: Georgia, Avaani and Azalea

Result: 3-4 BCS, 4-4, 3-7 BCS

Three teams travelled to Solihull and enjoyed a fantastic afternoon of netball. Two of the teams made a strong start and built up an early lead; however, as Solihull settled into their rhythm, they began to close the gap. In both matches, the scores were eventually levelled, with each game decided by just a single goal.

In Mrs Patching-Jones’ match, Solihull scored in the final minute to draw the game 4–4. There were some excellent moments of play, as we moved the ball confidently down the court. However, we needed to push the ball further ahead of our players’, as Solihull were very effective at intercepting our passes.

In the other closely contested match, we managed to prevent Solihull from scoring again, securing a hard-fought 4–3 victory. Lesson learnt was not to become complacent when winning, as it’s easy for a team to bring the game back.

The final team faced strong opposition but showed great determination throughout the match. We were particularly impressed with their tight marking and the pressure they applied to Solihull’s passing.

U11 Netball v Solihull

Players of the Match: Alice and Yuli

Result: 9-7 BCS, 5-2 BCS

Three U11 teams travelled away to Solihull on Wednesday. Solihull’s U11 teams were strong across the board, and it was clear from the outset that these would be challenging matches.

Mrs Patching-Jones’ first team played a closely contested game throughout. Solihull led 3–2 at the end of the first quarter, then extended their lead to 6–3 and 7–5, before the match finished 9–7. Both teams moved the ball well down the court, showing good timing and making effective use of space with accurate passing. Defensively, we worked hard to turn over possession, marking tightly and producing plenty of tips and interceptions.

Mrs Patching-Jones’ second team also faced strong opposition. At times the game became a little chaotic, with both teams moving the ball too quickly; we needed to slow the play down and show more control. Despite this, we worked hard to win possession and created many opportunities by getting the ball into the shooting circle regularly. It was an evenly matched game, but Solihull were more successful at converting their goals in the end.

Playing against tough opposition is always valuable, as it highlights areas for development while also encouraging the girls to work hard, stay focused, and think carefully about their decisions on court.

U11 Netball Tournament

Result: 4th place out of 12 schools

The U11 BCS girls delivered a fantastic performance at the Warwick Prep School tournament, showcasing clear progress and growing confidence across the day. Playing with real grit and determination, the girls produced some excellent netball throughout the group stage.

BCS topped their group after a series of impressive wins against strong opposition, including Beachborough, EHS, King Henry’s, RGS and Spratton Hall. The teamwork, movement off the ball and defensive pressure were highlights as the girls worked hard for one another in every match.

Progressing through to the Cup competition, BCS faced very tough opposition and finished an excellent 4th overall. Matches against Bromsgrove, Solihull and Heathmont tested the team, but the girls rose to the challenge and competed with great resilience and spirit.

A hugely positive day for the squad, with plenty of signs of development and lots to be proud of as they continue their netball journey.

U10 Netball Tournament

Players of the Match: Tilly, Lara and Suvaiyah

Result: 6th overall

The U10s took part in the Warwick Prep School Netball Tournament on Saturday. The tournament was played in a 5-a-side format, with the girls rotating positions each half, giving everyone the opportunity to gain experience in different roles. The standard of play was very high, making it a physically demanding morning, with the girls playing six 16-minute matches with only one game off.

We started the tournament positively with a 5–3 win against Beachborough Prep. This was followed by a narrow 7–6 loss to Warwick in a very close and even match. Our third match was against Croft School, who had a particularly strong squad, resulting in an 8–3 defeat. We then faced Heath Mount, another strong team, and although we lost 6–3, the girls kept the game close throughout. Spratton Hall were our next opponents and, after a tight first half, the girls found their rhythm and pulled away to secure an 8–3 victory. The final match was against King’s Hawford, who won 6–3.

A real strength throughout the tournament was the girls’ shooting, which was particularly impressive given that many of them do not usually play in shooting positions. Well done to all the girls for their hard work, determination and teamwork — there were some lovely moments of play across the morning.
