As we draw Trinity 1 to a close, I reflect with great pride on another productive and uplifting week in the life of our wonderful BCS Community. There is always a tremendous sense of momentum and purpose around the School at this stage of the academic year and this week encapsulated so much of what makes our community so special.

Founder’s Day remains, without question, one of the highlights of the school year. It was a beautiful and deeply moving celebration of our history, traditions and values. The Chapel Choir, as always, were imperious in their performance and filled the Chapel with music of the very highest standard. The pupils involved in the services brought the occasion to life magnificently through their poise, confidence and sincerity. I must also confess to smiling when “Mini Mr Neeson” made an appearance, complete with the trademark silver hair. It was a lovely moment and certainly added a touch of humour and warmth to a very special service. Thank you to all the parents, Governors and friends of BCS who attended and supported these important occasions within the life of our community.

The Prelude and Year 5 and 6 Recital which I attended this week once again reinforced the exceptional musical standards we are fortunate to enjoy at BCS. From our beginner musicians through to diploma standard performers, the quality on display was remarkable. Most pleasing of all was seeing the pupil’s hard work, perseverance and commitment shine through in such polished and confident performances. Music continues to be one of the great strengths of our School and events such as these remind us why.

Earlier in the week our Nursery pupils took another significant step on their journey towards becoming ‘Reception ready’ with a visit to the Sea Life Centre. The excitement and awe on the pupil’s faces was wonderful to see and the experience provided a fantastic opportunity for curiosity, exploration and learning beyond the classroom. I have no doubt that many of them slept very well that evening!

Today, we rounded off the half term with our final charity day in support of Project Malawi. School, Cathedral and Lichfield Houses came together superbly to deliver a fabulous assembly and a wonderfully spirited fun day to conclude the half term. The sense of togetherness and service that underpins Project Malawi continues to make me enormously proud. Thank you to all the staff, pupils and parents for your unwavering support of this important project and for the generosity and compassion you continue to show.

I would also like to thank all those parents who completed the recent questionnaire. There were a number of excellent and pertinent points raised which will help us continue to develop and strengthen our provision as we strive to maintain our position as the leading Prep School in the Midlands. I will provide a fuller update on the outcomes and next steps after half term.

In the meantime, my sincere thanks go to our exceptional staff for the care, commitment and energy they bring each day, to our remarkable pupils who continue to inspire us and, of course, to you, our parents, for your continued support and partnership.

Rest well over the break and I look forward to welcoming you all back on Monday 1 June.
