U8 Cricket v Warwick

Result: BCS win, BCS loss

The U8 girls played their first cricket matches of the season this week. With rain showers forcing play indoors, the games were adapted to the fast-paced format of kwik cricket. This exciting version of the game keeps players constantly involved, requiring quick thinking and teamwork both in the field and while batting.

Both teams showed great enthusiasm, regularly striking the ball well and running energetically between the wickets. In Mrs P-J’s match, Warwick won 190–158, with Warwick proving particularly strong when in bat, often finding greater distance despite our impressive fielding efforts. In Arkie’s match, Blue Coat secured a 206–140 victory.

Most importantly, it was wonderful to see the girls enjoying themselves and gaining their first experience of competitive cricket in such positive spirits.

U11 Cricket v Bromsgrove

Result: 252-242

Players of the Match: Batter – Eloise, Bowler – Sukhmani

Despite missing three of our county girls, who were away playing for the boys’ team at home, the U11 girls produced an outstanding all-round performance to secure a thrilling 252–242 victory over Bromsgrove U11 Girls Cricket Team.

Blue Coat set the tone early with a fantastic straight bowling display, showing discipline and control throughout the innings. The team conceded just six wides and no balls combined, which proved crucial in such a tight contest. Sukmani gave the girls the perfect start by taking two wickets in the opening over and immediately putting Bromsgrove under pressure. Amber then chipped in with another wicket, while Emily bowled superbly to claim two more wickets and finish with excellent figures. In total, the girls took five wickets as a team effort with the ball.

The fielding performance was equally impressive, with the girls showing great energy and determination. They were quick to the ball, backed each other up brilliantly, and worked hard to stop extra runs.

Batting was calm and sensible throughout the innings. Blue Coat protected their wickets well, losing only two wickets in total, while running hard between the wickets to collect numerous singles. The match remained close right to the end, but the final batting pair held their nerve superbly to guide the team to a well-earned victory.

U11 Cricket v Bromsgrove

Players of the Match: Batter – Rose, Bowler – Maliha

The U11 girls enjoyed another outstanding afternoon of cricket against Bromsgrove School, competing in one hardball fixture alongside three pairs matches. Across the four games, the girls achieved an impressive three wins and one loss, continuing what has been a hugely positive season for the squad.

The hardball team showed excellent composure and growing tactical awareness, with confident batting partnerships and disciplined bowling helping secure a well-deserved victory. In the pairs matches, the girls demonstrated great enthusiasm, teamwork and resilience, applying the skills they have developed in training with increasing confidence. There were some excellent wickets taken, accurate bowling spells and positive running between the wickets throughout the afternoon.

Most importantly, every girl had the opportunity to represent the school in cricket either against Repton School or Bromsgrove, making it a fantastic day of participation and development across the year group. It is especially pleasing to see the girls now competing strongly with and regularly beating some of the traditionally strongest sporting schools in the area. Their commitment, teamwork and growing belief continue to make them a very exciting group to watch.

U8 Cricket v King’s Hawford

Result: BCS loss both games

The U8s enjoyed a wonderful afternoon of cricket at King’s Hawford on Thursday. For both teams, it was their first experience of pairs cricket, providing a fantastic opportunity to put into practice the skills they have been developing throughout the term.

We were particularly impressed with the girls’ bowling. As bowling can be a challenging skill to master, it was great to see such consistency and confidence on display.

In Mrs P-J’s match, King’s Hawford won by 260 runs to 242. Kings Hawford were especially strong in their running between the wickets and in taking quick singles, which made a significant difference to the scoreline. This is something we will continue to focus on in training and games as we look to improve further moving forward.
