U10 Cricket v King’s Hawford (Hard Ball Team)

Players of the Match: Batter: Arya, Bowler: Khadija

Result: BCS win 271-228

The U10 Girls made history in their first ever hardball cricket fixture, producing a superb performance to beat Kings Hawford by 271–228. The girls adapted brilliantly to the challenges of hardball cricket and dominated the match from start to finish.

With the ball, our bowlers were outstanding, consistently attacking the stumps and taking several well deserved wickets. Their accuracy and confidence put Kings Hawford under pressure throughout the innings, while sharp fielding limited scoring opportunities.

In response, the batting was equally impressive. The girls showed great composure at the crease, striking a number of excellent boundaries and running intelligently between the wickets. A combination of powerful fours and quick, cheeky singles kept the scoreboard moving and demonstrated their growing understanding of the game.

This was a fantastic team performance and a memorable occasion for the squad as they celebrated their first hardball match in style. The enthusiasm, skill and teamwork on display were outstanding, and the girls should be extremely proud of their achievement.

U10 Cricket v King’s Hawford (Soft Ball Team)

Players of the Match: Batter: Lara, Bowler: Mishi, Fielder: Heidi

Result: BCS win 275-226

The U10 B team produced a confident performance to secure an impressive 275–226 victory over Kings Hawford.

After winning the toss, our girls elected to field first. A fantastic opening over from Mishi got us off to the perfect start, claiming two wickets and immediately putting pressure on the opposition. Mishi added another wicket later in the innings, while Bella and Heidi also picked up wickets with excellent bowling and fielding support.

The girls were quick to the ball throughout and showed great awareness by throwing into the wickets to limit runs. One area for improvement is ensuring we back up the wicketkeeper to prevent overthrows from resulting in extra runs.

We then went into bat and batted with great confidence, hitting numerous boundaries and running hard between the wickets. It was a superb batting display from the whole team, with particularly strong performances from Lara B, Mishi and Bella.

Overall, it was an excellent team performance and a well-deserved win, with the girls showing great enthusiasm, teamwork and determination throughout.

U11 ESCA Finals

The U11s’ run to the ESCA County Finals ended in a 29-run defeat to West House in the pairs cricket final. Batting first, the team struggled to build partnerships or maintain momentum against a disciplined bowling attack, with only Peter making a significant contribution as the innings never really got going. The resulting total left the bowlers with a difficult task, but they responded with determination and fought hard throughout the innings. Samraj was the standout performer, producing an excellent spell to claim three wickets and give the team hope, but despite a spirited display in the field, West House proved too strong and secured victory by 29 runs.

U10 Cricket v Solihull

Players of the Match: Bowler: Alessia, Batter: Amaya

Result: Solihull win

On Monday, the entire Year 5 cohort took part in cricket matches, with two teams travelling away and four teams competing at home. It was a fantastic sight to look across the front lawns of Blue Coat School and see them filled with girls enjoying and competing in cricket.

The matches were highly competitive, with strong teams from Solihull providing excellent opposition. Although the results did not go our way, every game was closely contested, with one match decided by just six runs. Once again, the girls demonstrated real strength with their bowling, consistently putting pressure on the opposition. Moving forward, the focus will be on becoming more confident and assertive when batting, making the most of every opportunity to score runs.

It has been a pleasure to watch the girls’ progress throughout the season, particularly in their bowling, which is often considered one of the most challenging skills to master in cricket. Their improvement, determination, and enthusiasm have been outstanding to see.

Collectively, the team performed exceptionally well and were a credit to the school throughout the competition.

Several pupils were competing at this level for the first time and should be particularly proud of their performances. Despite having limited experience, they embraced the challenge and demonstrated resilience and commitment in their respective events.
