U10 Hockey v Solihull

Player of the Match: Leni, Oreva

Result: 1-1, 1-3

The U10 girls enjoyed a fantastic afternoon of hockey against Solihull, with a mixture of results across the teams. It was particularly pleasing to see more than half of the year group representing BCS on a fixture, providing so many girls with the opportunity to experience competitive hockey.

There were some excellent individual performances, with strong dribbling and tackling evident throughout the matches. The girls also showed good attacking intent, creating some excellent opportunities and scoring some well worked team goals. Their willingness to pass and support each other was particularly encouraging.

As the girls continue to develop, we need to improve our positional awareness and understanding of where to move when we have and do not have possession. This will help us to maintain our shape and create more space when attacking.

Overall, it was a very positive afternoon, with lots of enthusiasm, skill and teamwork on display. It was great to see such a large number of girls enjoying competitive hockey and developing their confidence through match play.

U9 Hockey v Solihull

Player of the Match: Jaya, Olivia, Ele, Kavya

What a fantastic afternoon of hockey! Our U9 girls were split into four mixed-ability teams and played a round-robin format against Solihull Prep, giving everyone plenty of valuable match practice.

It was brilliant to see the girls improve with every game. They grew in confidence, began to understand their positions and developed a better awareness of the structure of the game. The girls battled hard throughout and were rewarded with lots of goals, showing great determination and teamwork.

Our next step is to continue looking up before playing the ball and, where possible, passing to a Blue Coat player rather than simply hitting the ball forward. This will help us keep possession and build our play as a team.

A fantastic afternoon of hockey and lots of progress from everyone. Well done, girls!

U11 Girls Hockey v Warwick

Player of the Match: Sophia, Evie

Result: Won 2-0, Won 3-0

The U11 girls played some fantastic hockey against Warwick on Wednesday afternoon. They showed great aggression and determination in defence and are becoming much more confident at stepping towards the ball and making tackles, rather than backing away.

Our midfielders have also made excellent progress with their ball-handling skills, giving them the confidence to take on defenders and find ways around them. Up front, our centre forwards have developed more power in their shots and are improving their positioning, which is creating more goal-scoring opportunities. Both games were a pleasure to watch, and we have been particularly impressed by the girls’ competitive spirit and willingness to take on board feedback and put it into practice.

Moving forward, we need to focus on using the width of the pitch more effectively, looking to play the ball into the wide areas rather than through the middle, or ‘danger zone’, where it is easier for the opposition to win possession.

U11 Girls Hockey v Warwick

Player of the Match: Matilda, Vithika

Result: Won 2-0, Won 3-0

The U11 girls produced an outstanding performance against Eversfield, dominating across every area of the pitch. The team demonstrated excellent teamwork, composure and game understanding, with the girls listening carefully to instructions and applying them effectively throughout the match.

A particular highlight was the girls’ ability to adapt when additional conditions were introduced before they could score again. They responded brilliantly, showing patience, discipline and an excellent understanding of what was being asked of them. The team executed the challenge successfully, demonstrating their ability to follow tactical instructions while maintaining their attacking intent.

Overall, this was a very pleasing performance that showcased the girls’ technical ability, teamwork and tactical awareness. Their willingness to listen, adapt and implement instructions was particularly impressive and reflects the progress they continue to make as a team.

U11 Boys Rugby.v RGS & Winterfold

Player of the Match: Rajan

Result: 2-2

The boys showed just how much progress they have made since the start of term with two outstanding performances on Wednesday afternoon. Playing RGS in the first game the boys started to display better understanding of the offloading game we aspire to, but the most impressive aspect of play these boys have improved is their defence, where the commitment and attitude is far better than the beginning of term.

The first game resulted in a reasonably comfortable victory whilst the 2nd game against Winterfold was a brutal affair with both teams putting in some bone crunching tackles. Rajan really showed his class with some excellent tackles, as did one of their boys who probably put the hit of the day on Nicholas!

The final scoreline was 2-2 which was probably a bit unfair on our play but we failed to score in the red zone a number of times. That said a great afternoon of rugby, and another step in the right direction.

u8 Rugby vs Solihull Prep School

Our U8 tag rugby teams enjoyed an exciting afternoon of rugby against Solihull Prep School, with six teams taking part in a fantastic festival of sport. For all the pupils, this was their first away fixture representing the school, making it a particularly memorable occasion.

The children showed great enthusiasm, teamwork and determination throughout, demonstrating the skills they have been developing in training. There were plenty of excellent passes, evasive runs and impressive tags, with everyone growing in confidence as the matches progressed. Although no results were recorded, the focus was firmly on participation, sportsmanship and enjoyment, and the pupils represented the school superbly.

It was wonderful to see them supporting one another, embracing the challenge and enjoying the opportunity to play against new opposition. Well done to all involved on a brilliant first away fixture!
