U10 Football v Warwick Junior School

Players of the Match: Samson, Roman, Max, Ryan and Jack

After the passing of storm Isha, the U10 footballers made their way to Warwick for five games with every player in the year participating in a competitive fixture. There was a victory with Samson showing some sharp shooting to score a couple of excellent goals. Despite some sloppy defending in the last 5 minutes, a good first half led to a victory. In the other games, the players battled hard showing an excellent work rate to attempt to win the ball back for their team but need continued development on their positional understanding and creating space when they have possession of the ball so they can be a passing option for a team mate. There were impressive performances by Roman, Max, Ryan, and Jack.

U10 Netball v The Croft

Result: 3-2 BCS win

Player of the Match: Flo

We started off quite slowly battling with the challenges of the storm as we went behind 2-0.  With a rotation of players and more movement driving forwards onto the ball from Carla and Leela, we started to control the match in attack. Katie and Kara worked well as a pair and, with a switch of positions, Ana and Dezhen complimented the defence into attack by dodging to get free. It was hard to score for both teams as the wind kept carrying the ball away but overall we came out strongest and won the match 3-2.

U10 Netball v The Croft

Result: 11-8 BCS win

Player of the Match: Pippa

On Monday, the U10’s played The Croft. This was a brilliant game of netball with the girls demonstrating lots of skill and determination. The Croft were a strong side with effective defence and attack. At the end of the first quarter, we were drawing 2-2 and it looked like the game could go either way. In the second quarter, we came out firing, turning over lots of balls and converting in the shooting circle. Half time score of 8-5. In the second half, there were moments where neither team could maintain possession and moments of brilliant netball where players overlapped down the court and drove forwards for the ball. The final score after a great game was 11-8 BCS win! Well played to Pippa for being awarded player of the match.

U9 Football v Solihull and West House

Result: Reuben, Joshua, Chester and Rohan

The U9 footballers had four teams hosting Solihull and West House with the pitches at BCS full of energy, tackles, shots, and excitement. Two teams played against West House and Solihull in a triangular fixture whilst the two other teams played a game against Solihull. Highlights of the afternoon were an excellent strike into the top corner like a rocket from Joshua, Reuben’s tenacious workrate and being an excellent positional player, and Chester and Rohan’s knowledge of positional play and ability to move into space. After an exciting afternoon, the players returned to the Year 5 Hub with their slice of pizza to discuss the events of their footballing afternoon.

U9 Netball v Solihull Prep

Result: 2-4 Solihull win, 4-2 BCS win , 0-0 draw, 1-0 BCS win

Players of the Match: Summer, Jaiya, Annabel, and Alana

With over 70 young girls playing netball, this was definitely a sight to be seen. The teams all put the skills they have learnt to the test against Solihull. Whilst the fixtures themselves were short in length, the quality and enthusiasm was clear to see. We observed some good movement into space and quick decision making and great interceptions from players just learning to understand the rules and restrictions of the game. With more work on their feet in their coming lessons the girls will no doubt start to fully enjoy all the goodness that this sport brings.

U10 Netball v Bromsgrove

Result: 15-11 BCS win

Player of the Match: Alice

This match was thrilling from start to finish and exhibited how hard work and practise both in and out of School can produce an unbelievable standard displayed by Year 5 pupils. Both teams demonstrated an excellent understanding of rules and were competitive within. Alice proved her worth in both attack and then defence as we had to match Bromsgrove’s key player. Summer took some excellent rebounds and kept the goals ticking in whilst the pairing of Freya and then Pippa in the D kept the score ticking over. Hannah made some good tips and was tactical in goal line passes. It was great to see Lana listen to feedback given and drive forward into space and watch Emily’s reading of time and space. Ava-Mae worked solidly in any position and showed how versatile she is. Cracking match to watch and umpire, well done girls!

U9 v Norfolk House

Players of the Match: Sienna and Maliha

On Tuesday, the U9 girls played Norfolk House. This was the first fixture any of the girls had played. Playing the 5 aside formation meant the girls were able to experience a variety of positions developing both their attacking and defensive skills. All the pupils gave 100% effort and demonstrated some super netball skills and teamwork throughout. Well done to all who played, you made Blue Coat very proud. Congratulations to Sienna and Maliha for being awarded Player of the Match.

U11 Hockey v Solihull

Result: 1-3 Solihull win, 1-2 Solihull win

Player of the Match: Rayan

The U11 hockey team travelled to Solihull for two competitive games of hockey. For one team, it was their final preparation before their IAPS competition at Repton School on Friday and, for the other team, their last opportunity to play on the hockey field at BCS. Mr Melia’s team came up against a strong opponent who played at good pace and intensity putting the BCS defence and goal under pressure consistently. Despite that, a well worked goal kept BCS in the game. Plenty to reflect on before Friday’s tournament. In Mr Gregory’s game, an agonising last minute goal ended up in defeat for the BCS team who created some excellent goal scoring opportunities but found a Solihull goalkeeper on top form denying the team any goals. Good transition play from James who stuck to turning defence into attack and speedy work from Umar creating goal scoring chances for BCS, especially in the second half. Despite that, some solid defending was needed throughout with George making some great saves and Rayan having a fantastic goal line clearance.

U10 Netball v Bromsgrove

A clean sweep! Five fantastic wins against Bromsgrove!

It was fantastic to see every Year 5 girl out and involved in the fixture against Bromsgrove. The girls enjoyed getting an extra fixture in on their non-games day and definitely made the most of it. Blue Coat moved the ball quickly down the court and were able to capitalise on their possession with some excellent shooting in the ‘D’. In some of the games, Blue Coat struggled with their  ‘footwork’ and kept being penalised and losing possession. The girls worked really hard on this as the game progressed and definitely got better and made less mistakes. It was great to see how eager the girls were to move and find space and our quick passing down court gave us the victories. Well done girls!

U11 Netball v Bromsgrove

On Wednesday, five U11 teams visited Bromsgrove for a netball fixture. Although we had mixed results, it was a brilliant opportunity for lots of girls to experience game play and to demonstrate their ability in a range of positions. The girls have been working hard in training to develop their passing, defending and knowledge of the rules and this was all on show during their games. All teams demonstrated brilliant teamwork and perseverance, continuing to work hard for one another irrespective of the score. Well played all!

U8 Football v Solihull

The U8’s performed admirably against Solihull with all games being competitive. The boys demonstrated many of the skills they have been learning in games such as passing into space, control, and movement off the ball. Baron showed great tenacity and, as he develops his tactical awareness, will become a fine footballer. Lucas worked really hard and showed great desire. Stefanos showed great composure on the ball and brought others into the game. All in all a good afternoon which they thoroughly enjoyed.
