u10 boys rugby festival

Player of the Match: Jason

Result: BCS win – 2 wins 2 losses

The Year 5 Blue Coat boys enjoyed a fantastic afternoon of rugby at a festival in Warwick. The team played four matches, finishing the afternoon with two wins and two losses, showing great improvement and development throughout the tournament.

The boys worked incredibly hard in attack, running strongly and demonstrating some excellent offloading to keep the ball moving. Our rucking also improved with each game, allowing us to retain possession and build our attacks.

Defensively, the boys made significant progress, particularly with their defensive line. As the afternoon went on, they became much better at pushing up together and putting pressure on the ball carrier. This helped to shut down opposition attacks and win several turnovers. An area for further development is our tackling technique, focusing on getting lower and wrapping our arms around the opposition.

The afternoon finished with a presentation, where Jason Hu was deservedly awarded Blue Coat Player of the Tournament for his excellent performances. Well done to all the boys for their fantastic effort, teamwork and positive attitude throughout the festival!

u9 boys rugby festival at Kings st albans

Three U9 teams travelled to Kings St Albans for their first rugby festival, providing an excellent opportunity for the players to experience a competitive festival environment. All three teams played five games, giving every player plenty of valuable game time and the chance to put their skills into practice. Across the afternoon, the players were challenged in all areas of their rugby, particularly their tackling, game understanding and physical fitness. There were plenty of positive moments, with the teams showing growing confidence as the festival progressed. The players were encouraged to make decisions under pressure, work together as a team and learn from each game. A big well done to all three teams for their effort, attitude and enthusiasm throughout the afternoon, and thank you to Kings St Albans for hosting a great festival.

U11 Girls Hockey Tournament

Result: BCS lose 3-1, 2-0, 0-0

The U11 girls took part in a competitive hockey tournament at RGS, showing determination and resilience throughout their matches.

The team opened against Bromsgrove, losing 3–1, with Arya scoring our goal. They then faced Hereford Cathedral, losing 2–0, before finishing the group stages with a hard fought 0–0 draw against Kings Hawford.

Unfortunately, these results meant that the girls did not progress to the knockout stages. However, the tournament provided valuable experience and highlighted areas for development as we continue to improve as a team.

Moving forward, we will focus on improving our tackling, developing positional awareness and working on our fitness to help us cover the larger pitches more effectively letting the ball do the work. With continued commitment and practice, the girls will have plenty of opportunities to build on this experience and make progress in future tournaments.

U11 Rugby v Bromsgrove

Players of the Match: Kavan and Kenny

The U11 boys took on Bromsgrove in a highly entertaining and competitive fixture, with the team showing just how much progress they are making this season. There were some outstanding individual performances from Kavan, Kenny, Lucas, George and Rajan, although every player stepped up against a strong Bromsgrove side and gave their all throughout the match.

Lucas once again showed remarkable bravery, throwing himself into tackles despite being one of the smallest players on the pitch. His fearlessness and determination were fantastic to see. Kavan began to show his full potential with some excellent evasive running, while Kenny proved equally difficult to catch with some impressive footwork and attacking play. George is also developing into an influential playmaker, beginning to see opportunities and create chances for his teammates. As a team, the boys are taking huge strides forward, and it is fantastic to see their confidence and understanding continuing to grow.

A huge well done to all the boys for their effort, attitude and commitment against such strong opposition. There is plenty more to come from this exciting group!
