Charlotte’s Web by E B White
Review by Sia (3JO)
Charlotte’s Web is a story about the friendship between a spider called Charlotte and a pig called Wilbur. Charlotte is on a mission to save her friend Wilbur from getting killed for food. My favourite character is Fern who is a protagonist. Fern raises Wilbur at the start of the book. Fern is a loving little girl that tries to help make sure Wilbur is raised properly. This book is fiction and the genre is mystery and fantasy.
I would recommend this book for a boy or a girl that is interested in cliffhangers and between the ages of 7 and 10.
I would rate this book four stars because I love how Wilbur and Charlotte’s friendship is amazing and inspiring. The cliffhangers are interesting in this book and the book is broken up into loads of big chapters.
Cookie and the Most Mysterious Mystery in the World by Konnie Huq
Review by Panayiotis (3RB)
Cookie is trying to find out who is the mystery gamer of Kushie’s Quest and who is the hacker who hacked the school’s website. The hacker sent many teacher secrets to the website. The hacker also turned the school logo into a BANANA! My favourite character is Cookie, who is also the protagonist, because she is funny and because she likes to solve mysteries. The book is a mystery book which is also funny.Â
I liked the funny pictures in the background.Â
I would recommend this book to my classmates in Y3. This book is appropriate for all students in Y3.
Good Dog McTavish by Meg RosoffÂ
Review by Noura (3SM)
This is a fiction book about the family called the Peaches. The mum and dad were getting divorced because mum was getting sick of taking care of the children who wouldn’t help her. One day the family decide to buy a dog called McTavish. McTavish was a very well behaved dog. I liked that this book was very humorous and intriguing. I didn’t like that in the story the mum has to go away to another country. I would recommend this book for the ages 4 and above. Get ready for some serious but quite funny reading!
Sam Wu is NOT Afraid of Spiders by Kevin and Katie Tsang
Review by Sebastian (3ZN)
The book is about a boy called Sam Wu. Mr Dougal bought a giant spider called Tulip from sixth grade to show Sam’s class. In the afternoon the class wrote questions for Mr Dougal about Tulip. Sam and his friends took the questions to Mr Dougal but when they got to his classroom Tulip had escaped! With the help of his friends, Lucy his sister, Na-na and her friend, they went on a mission to find Tulip. They dropped honey on the school corridor, then they got accidentally locked in a cupboard with Tulip. Mr Dougal rescued them and all was well in the end.Â
I found this book interesting, because Sam was a bit confused. He was a little bit afraid and a little bit not afraid of spiders. The ending was very funny.Â
I would recommend this book to children in year 1-6.
The Magic Finger by Roald Dahl
Review by Ava (4ED)
This book is about a girl who has a special power in her finger. Whenever she gets very angry, she points her finger and something stange and magical happens. When her neighbours go hunting animals, she decides she cannot let it continue. But what will her magic finger do to them? And how will they learn their lesson? Have you ever wished you had a superpower? What would you do if you could change something you thought was unfair?
I liked this story because it was funny and full of surprises. The magical changes made me want to keep reading, to find out what would happen next. I also liked how the book teaches you to think about how your actions affect others.Â
I would recommend the Magic finger to anyone who likes short, exciting stories with a bit of magic and a good message about kindness and fairness.
Skulduggery Pleasant by Derek Landy
Review by Tara (5GT)
Well, it Is about the amazing detective – Skulduggery and the very brave girl that is called Stephanie Cain (also called Valkyrie Cain). As this is the first book of the series, it contains a lot of old mysteries and cunning memories. To sum up the story, it is about Stephanie, Skullduggery and other characters trying to stop Serpine (who is the enemy) from getting the sceptre that will make him more powerful and strong enough to take over everyone and bring back the faceless ones, who are very terrible people who used to live here. But will Skulduggery and Stephanie be able to stop Serpine getting the Sceptre?
I liked how they told us about what happened in the past to help us understand a little more. They also kept some secrets hidden, some revealed, that made me read another book from the Skulduggery Pleasant collection.
I will recommend this book to people who likes hidden mysteries that will be revealed throughout the series and for people who love big surprises. It will be like finding out clues for a bold ending! I recommend reading this book at the age 9 – 12. I am sure you will enjoy it!
I Am Rebel by Ross Montgomery
Review by Eva (6JW)
If you’re looking for a heart warming book that will brighten your day, well this is the perfect book for you. I Am Rebel is about an adventurous boy, a loving dog and an unjust tyrant. There is a group of people who wish for democracy and begin a rebellion. Will they succeed?…Â
I loved this book as soon as I opened it I knew I would love it and as I continued reading it, it took me through the good and bad of the story, but this story had a good ending.Â
I would definitely recommend it to people who like happy endings, animals or someone who just is looking for a great book.
