U11 Cricket Eight8 competition

The U11 Girls went to Malvern College on Sunday to take part in the Malvern Super 8’s cricket festival. Malvern College in the sunshine is one of cricket iconic school grounds with the beautiful Malvern Hills in the background and wickets that are prepared immaculately.

The girls performed magnificently considering they were a year young and, bar some sloppy fielding in the last game, could have won the festival. In the end, they finished 3rd on count back having lost to Pinewood in their first match. The first game against Pinewood was the lowest score of the day, where we restricted them to 51 by bowling and fielding really well. Unfortunately we had too many dot balls with the bat and fell an agonising 5 runs short in the chase although it was close with Summer batting well.

The shackles came off in the 2nd game against Prestfelde where we managed to score an impressive 76 with Kitty and Eva Mae batting superbly. We bowled well and should have won comfortably but a few nerves at the end meant that the game went to the last ball with Prestfelde needing six to win, thankfully Summer bowled a beauty and we were victorious.

In the 3rd game, against Malvern St James, Louisa showed her raw power smashing a superb 22, that girl has dynamite in her arms and can really smash the ball, but she also showed great awareness to tap and run when bowled a good ball. The bowlers again bowled accurately and we managed to win comfortably.

The last game against the Downs was again a good game where we came up against the best individual player on the day, who bowled with pace and accuracy. We still managed to score an impressive 71 but we were sloppy in the field and the same girl’s excellent running between the wickets saw them home.

Overall a great day, the girls were a joy to work with. All the players showed great promise but Ava-Mae and Kitty really batted sensibly whilst Emily and Pippa bowled consistently well. Pippa also is an avid fan of scoring, who knew! Thanks must also go to Izzy who was a tremendous help all day. Well done all on a great day.

U8 & U9 Swimming v Warwick

Blue Coat swimmers were put to the test this week against Warwick. In a highly competitive and skilled gala, every swimmer gave 100% and showed their talents over 25m.

Most races were so close to call, but extra work in squad sessions to give more in the final 5m metres allowed Blue Coat to take victory in a number of races. Each swimmer had to adapt and it was fantastic to see an number of times overtaking PB’s.

Mr Brookes was incredibly proud of the efforts of each swimmer, who should also take pride in their performance and throughout their efforts in squads this year.

U9 Girls’ Cricket v King’s Hawford

The Girls’ U9 teams put in a spirited performance in their match against King’s Hawford, showing great promise and enthusiasm throughout. There was some excellent batting on display, with several of our players finding the boundary and hitting confident 4s. A special mention goes to Arya, whose boundary shot was a real highlight as she hit the ball for a 6.

In the field, the girls showed determination and teamwork, with their fielding improving steadily as the match progressed. Their growing awareness and communication helped limit the opposition’s scoring opportunities later in the game.

While our bowling showed moments of potential, it remains an area for development. A number of wides contributed to the King’s Hawford total, reminding us of the importance of consistency and accuracy in future matches.

Overall, it was a positive outing full of learning opportunities and encouraging signs for the rest of the season. Well done to all the players!
