The U9 rugby festival at Winterfold House School was a fantastic day of skill, teamwork, and sportsmanship. Three teams participated, showcasing great energy and enthusiasm on the field. The players displayed impressive passing, tackling, and running throughout the games. Each team played with determination, sharing moments of teamwork and learning in every match. The young athletes showed great improvement in their rugby skills. It was a wonderful event filled with fun and camaraderie, with all the teams enjoying the spirit of the game.

U10 & U11 Warwick Swimming Gala

The first ever Warwick 25’s Gala took place on Tuesday 15 October where we took 3 teams to Warwick to compete against 7 other schools. Our U11 boys were fantastic throughout, placing 2nd in the 25m front crawl and 25m breaststroke and 3rd in the 25m backstroke. Tom, after a close race, also won the 25m butterfly whilst also placing 2nd in the medley relay before winning the freestyle relay. This meant that the boys finished 2nd overall.

Our U10 boys also shone brightly during the gala; they came in 2nd in the 25m butterfly, backstroke and front crawl. Garrick also won gold in the 25m freestyle, as well as placing 2nd in both relays which meant the boys finished 2nd overall.

Finally, our U10 girls consisting of Amelia, Chloe, Annabel and Sukhmani stole the headlines as they were U10 winners! Amelia won gold in both 25m breaststroke and 100m individual relay and Chloe also won gold in the 25m backstroke. Sukhmani & Annabel finished 2nd in the freestyle & butterfly respectively and won the medley relay.

It was an afternoon of skill as well as pace and stamina and every swimmer should be proud of their efforts. Well done!

U11 Rugby v Solihull

The U11’s played their best rugby of the season against Solihull scoring some wonderful team tries as well as a few great individual ones as well. Finally, the boys seemed to be working together better and the support and realignment was far better than in previous matches. Roman ran with real intent and it would sometimes take 3 to stop him. This gave us lots of space in the wide areas for Samson to use his “superskills” which he did with great effect. The other player worthy of special mention is Emmanuel who has improved immensely over the course of this term, he has “raw power” and could with a bit of refinement be a superb rugby player. Zar made his debut and aquitted himself well, and Kavidh showed that he can play as part of a team towards the end. The biggest improvement for all was their attitude and willingness to work hard, track back, and help each other. This bodes well for the 2nd half of term, well done.

Player of the Match: Roman

U8 Rugby Festival

The U8 tag rugby festival at Warwick School saw six enthusiastic teams from The Blue Coat School make their debut in competitive play. The young players showcased excellent teamwork, determination, and sportsmanship throughout the day. Each match was filled with energy as the teams demonstrated great passing, evasive running, and an improving understanding of the game. The festival provided a fantastic learning experience, with smiles all around as players celebrated their first steps in competitive rugby. A day of fun, growth, and camaraderie for all involved.

U8 Hockey Festival

The U8 Hockey Festival at BCS was a joyful and action-packed afternoon, with teams from Solihull and Kings Hawford joining us for a fantastic afternoon of Hockey.

Throughout the festival, our young players showcased some impressive skills on the pitch. They particularly excelled when keeping to their positions, which allowed for better team coordination and flow of play. Their understanding of spacing and movement is developing nicely, contributing to some exciting attacking opportunities.

In attack, the players demonstrated great creativity and drive, leading to numerous goals being scored across the matches. The defence was equally strong, with some fabulous clearances under pressure, showing that our young athletes are learning how to stay composed and make decisive plays.

What stood out the most was the happiness and smiles from everyone involved. The festival was not just about the goals and the skills, but about fostering a love for the game. The players embraced the spirit of sportsmanship, and it was heartwarming to see them learning how to give three cheers for the opposition—a valuable lesson in respect and teamwork.

Overall, it was a brilliant afternoon filled with fun, learning, and lots of goals! The future of our hockey programme looks very promising with this enthusiastic and talented group of young players.

U11 IAPS Hockey

Our U11 girls participated in the IAPS Hockey Tournament, and it was a day filled with excitement, drama, and exceptional performances.

We began the day in fantastic form, topping our group after winning all three of our matches. The girls played brilliantly, showing great teamwork, determination, and skill. We recorded victories against: Leicester Grammar, Bablake and Repton.

In these games, we were solid at the back, only conceding one goal throughout. Our defence was disciplined, and the midfield and attack linked up beautifully to create plenty of opportunities.

In the quarter-final, we faced a tough match against Bedford. We dominated possession with 90% control of the game and created numerous chances to score. Unfortunately, we couldn’t find the back of the net in regular time, and despite taking the game to a Golden Goal period, it still ended goalless.

The game moved to a penalty shootout, and this is where the girls truly showed their composure under pressure. Summer was outstanding in goal, making several key saves. Meanwhile, Hannah “Cool Head” stepped up with ice in her veins, calmly slotting home her penalties and leading us to a dramatic victory that took us into the semi-finals.

With little time to recover from the quarter-final excitement, we faced The Elms in the semi-final. Again, the girls performed admirably, maintaining control for much of the game. However, despite being the better team for long stretches, The Elms capitalised on their two main chances, and we narrowly lost 2-1.

Although the day ended with a narrow defeat in the semi-final, the improvement within the team from our first match to now is remarkable. The dedication and drive these girls have shown to improve for each other is a testament to their character. They can hold their heads high after such an impressive display of teamwork, skill, and resilience.

It was a great day with great kids! The future is very bright for this talented group.
