U11 Cricket v Warwick
This week marked a special milestone in The Blue Coat School’s cricket calendar as our U11 cricketers – both boys and girls – played together for the first time in a series of exciting mixed matches.
Across two venues, our pupils took part in 4 hardball pairs cricket matches and 6 softball pairs cricket matches against Warwick Junior School, celebrating the culmination of a term’s focused cricket development. In the 4 hardball pairs matches, players demonstrated great bravery and technical development. Their awareness of field placements, running between the wickets, and intelligent bowling tactics were highlights. The mixed teams worked seamlessly, supporting each other and taking on key roles with maturity.
Many players bowled accurately and confidently, while others played with a straight bat and showed clever decision-making under pressure – a testament to the term’s training. The 6 softball matches were packed with energy and inclusive spirit. With every player getting a chance to bat, bowl, and field, the games were a true team effort. Pupils rotated positions and worked hard to apply their understanding of fielding strategies and calling when running between the wickets.
There were some wonderful moments of tactical thinking and collaborative play, with special praise for how all pupils encouraged one another throughout. The primary goal of the afternoon was not the scoreboard but the opportunity for every player to put their learning into practice in a match environment.
From calling confidently, backing up throws, to judging when to take quick singles or bowl to a fielding plan, the players truly demonstrated how far they’ve come this term. It was inspiring to see boys and girls playing side by side with such cohesion and enthusiasm. The games reflected the spirit of the school and the values we aim to instil through sport – inclusion, respect, confidence, and growth. We look forward to building on this positive experience and offering more mixed cricket opportunities in the future.
U9 Cricket v Eversfield
On a gloriously sunny afternoon, the U9 girls put on a fantastic display of cricketing spirit and skill in a double-header against Eversfield, playing two exciting games of pairs cricket.
From the first ball, it was clear the girls were up for the challenge. The bowling across both games was nothing short of superb — accurate, determined, and consistently putting the opposition under pressure. Wickets fell at regular intervals thanks to tight lines, smart fielding, and great teamwork.
Equally impressive was the running between the wickets. The girls showed excellent communication and awareness, turning singles into twos and always looking for the extra run. Their energy and confidence at the crease were a joy to watch, showing how much they’ve progressed this season.
Both matches were played in great spirit, with every player contributing to a memorable afternoon of cricket. Whether with bat, ball, or in the field, the girls showed real promise and a love for the game.
A big thank you to Eversfield for being such friendly and competitive opponents, and to the supporters who cheered both teams on in the sunshine. Well played, girls!
U10 Cricket v King’s Hawford
The U10 girls played with great energy and enthusiasm in their fixtures against King’s Hawford. The A team played with an Incrediball and demonstrated impressive progress in both batting and bowling, showing improved technique and teamwork. The B team played a soft ball match and should be commended for their communication and growing confidence in the field. It is clear how much the girls have developed through our cricket provision at BCS, and it’s wonderful to see their enjoyment of the sport shining through. With cricket now available at Harborne Cricket Club, we hope this passion continues to flourish beyond school fixtures.
Mercia Prep School Athletics Championships
In exceptionally hot conditions, BCS athletes showed resilience, determination and team spirit at the Regional Prep Schools Athletics Championships.
Sahib and Zach, (competing a year young), bravely tackled the gruelling 1500m, embodying the BCS spirit from start to finish. Sahib then moved straight into the high jump and cleared an impressive 1.15m. Kitty ran a superb 800m, finishing second after a determined sprint from 80m out, securing her place at the National Championships. Lana and Ree performed strongly in both the 100m and 200m, with both reaching the finals in each event. Lana placed 3rd in the 100m and 5th in the 200m, while Ree, also a year young, came 5th in the 100m and 8th in the 200m.
In the U12 Long Jump, Josh achieved a personal best with a leap of 4.04m to claim 3rd place, with Sam also competing well. Joe, another year-young competitor, ran a gutsy 800m in intense heat, finishing 8th in 2:46. The standout performance came from Roman, who retained his U12 Javelin title and also won the Shot Put. He will now represent Mercia along with Kitty at the Nationals at Alexander Stadium.
