With some awful weather predicted for the day, we were unsure if we were going to be able to play the fixture. However, we were lucky and the girls got to play in some lovely conditions which made for a very competitive afternoon of hockey. King’s Hawford are always a strong opposition and this Monday was no different. Both teams demonstrated some very good teamwork and skill on and off the ball. Final scores finished with one game 6-1 to Kings Hawford. The other match ended 6-0 to BCS. Well done to each and everyone of you, lots to build on but a great start to the season.

U9 Hockey v King’s Hawford
A fantastic afternoon of hockey! The girls were extremely excited as for many it was their first time playing an away fixture for Blue Coat, travelling on the minibus and having match tea! It was a different experience for the girls playing on grass but they adapted quickly and learnt that they really had to hit the ball hard to get the ball to move. Excellent work rate and determination helped Blue Coat to bring the ball forward and our girls were relentless firing the ball into goal. Excellent defence made it hard for King’s Hawford to get through, with our girls getting low and staying strong in the tackle. As the game progressed the girls got better at spreading out and trusting their teammates. A brilliant start to the season; well done girls!

Although no scores were kept, all players left the field with smiles and a newfound confidence in their abilities. U11 Hockey v King’s HawfordÂ
With the rain beating down on the hockey pitch, the Year 6 team looked ready for what promised to be a thrilling match. With the whistle blown, the players sprang into action, executing sharp passes and demonstrating excellent teamwork. Kitty, the team captain, led the charge, weaving through defenders before sending Alice through for a powerful strike towards the goal. Her determination was evident as she rallied her teammates, urging them to push forward.
Despite their impressive attacking moves, the team struggled to maintain their defensive formation. On several occasions, the opposing side exploited gaps in their defence, leading to tense moments near their goal. Summer, the goalkeeper, made some good saves, but it became clear that the team needed to focus on their defensive coordination and clearances. With a few adjustments in our strategy, we need to transform our attacking prowess into a solid defence, ensuring that future matches can showcase their well-rounded skills.
The rain poured down relentlessly as the next team took to the pitch, their faces set with determination. It was a fierce battle between the two schools, and both sides had shown impressive skills throughout the match. BCS organised their quick attacks and swiftly pushed the ball forward. Lana darted down the right-hand side, her stick skills showing as she evaded defenders. With a powerful strike, she sent the ball ricocheting off Freya’s stick. The spectators applauded in cheers, encouraging the team to push harder. Each player fought fiercely, their teamwork remarkable despite the heavy rain. The match continued with relentless pressure from BCS, showcasing not only skill but also the spirit of competitive sport.

U11 Rugby v WarwickÂ
The U11’s had a great afternoon of rugby at Warwick with all teams performing well. With Warwick’s A team at a Festival in Buckingham, their B team struggled against the firepower of Samson, Kavidh, and Roman in a dominant display. What was most pleasing to see was some great teamwork on show rather than being a team of individuals which has sometimes been the case. They need to work hard at improving their cohesion in defence but there is a lot of growth left in this team if they are willing to put the effort in. The B’s also show real promise with Zar making some powerful runs down the middle and Paul becoming the turnover king at the breakdown. A few need to show greater commitment and courage in defence, and at least attempt to tackle!

U11 Rugby v MonmouthÂ
On a sunny Friday afternoon, the U11 rugby squad played a very competitive game against Monmouth. In the end, Monmouth’s rugby understanding was slightly better and more of their players were willing to tackle. As the game progressed, our tenacity and willingness to confront the opposition improved massively and we scored a couple of good tries. This was a great learning experience for the boys in the need to be confrontational and to go and hunt the opposition down rather than waiting for them to run at them.
U11 Hockey v Monmouth
On a chilly Friday afternoon, the BCS hockey team faced off against the Monmouth girls, who were visiting from Wales. The match began with excitement, but it quickly became clear that the Monmouth team was not as strong as expected. In order to make the game more competitive, the BCS teacher decided to rotate some players, allowing more girls to join in and enjoy the experience.
Despite the challenge of playing a weaker opponent, the BCS girls demonstrated their values of sportsmanship and teamwork. They accepted the teacher’s decision with grace and played with enthusiasm, cheering each other on throughout the match. As the game progressed, the atmosphere was filled with positivity, showcasing true sportswomanship.
