U10 Hockey

Players of the Match: Lara and Pippa

The U10s enjoyed a tightly fought intra-school hockey match, with both teams showing how much progress they’ve made this term. The girls demonstrated far greater composure on the ball, making thoughtful passes and working well as a team. There were some fantastic finishes in front of goal, showcasing improving accuracy and confidence. As they continue to develop, the girls should look to release the ball a little earlier, play into space for teammates to run onto, and move towards the ball when receiving. Overall, it was a highly competitive and enjoyable match, full of effort, learning, and great spirit. Well done, girls!

After a thrilling evening of racing, BCS emerged victorious by just two points, reflecting how competitive the event was. We extend our thanks to Solihull for their warm hospitality. A special mention goes to Izzy, who demonstrated superb resilience and determination, staging an impressive comeback to win the Medley Relay and securing victories in both her individual races.

U9 Hockey v RGS: The Grange

Players of the Match: Daya, Hannah, Himmat, Lulu and Aoife

The U9 BCS girls travelled to RGS: The Grange on a bitterly cold afternoon for their final hockey fixture of the term. Despite the freezing conditions, the team arrived in great spirits and were eager to put into practice everything they have been working on this season.

From the first push back, the girls showed real focus and determination. Their passing was crisp and accurate, and they worked hard to maintain their shape across the pitch. The defensive unit stayed disciplined, making strong tackles and clearing the ball with confidence, while the midfield players linked play beautifully, driving the team forward with energy.

In attack, the girls demonstrated some excellent stick skills, moving the ball into space and creating several promising opportunities. Their teamwork was particularly impressive, with players communicating well and supporting each other throughout the match. It was clear to see the progress they have made in understanding positioning, decision-making, and transitioning quickly between attack and defence.

As the game went on, BCS continued to grow in confidence, showing resilience in the cold conditions and maintaining a positive attitude right to the final whistle. Every player contributed, and the improvement from the start of the term was evident to all watching.

A huge thank you to all the parents and supporters who braved the weather to cheer the team on – your encouragement means a great deal to the girls.

Well done to the entire squad for a fantastic performance and a brilliant way to end the term’s fixtures!

U11 Rugby v Winterfold

Result: Draw

Players of the Match: Chester, Yixi, Ihtesham and Barnaby

What a game of rugby! Winterfold brought 13 boys on Wednesday for 2 games of rugby. Mr Protherough’s team had a great game of 7’s in a very even game. Both teams scored some amazing tries with Zach and Chester making some great surges forward. Yixi again showed just how much he has developed this term with shrewd decision making of when to pass and when to surge. The one area that a number need to work on is looking after the ball in contact, we had numerous opportunities near the line in the 2nd half where we lost the ball with the line at our mercy. We were also a bit slow in support when someone went into contact. These boys have been a pleasure to coach this year and have improved enormously throughout the term, well done all.

The hard thing when playing such a small school is trying to make sure the games are relatively even. Unfortunately Mr Melia’s match started as a bit of a mismatch but thanks to some last minute transfers and creative refereeing the boys had an enjoyable afternoon. They showed great persverance, and resilience and performed heroically in adversity.

U10 Hockey v Warwick

Result: BCS 3-0, draw

Player of the Match: Evie

It was a fantastic end to the girls’ hockey term, with two teams battling it out against Warwick School on Thursday evening. Both matches were brilliant to watch, and the girls showed just how much progress they’ve made over the term.

In the first match, coached by Mrs P-J, Blue Coat dominated from start to finish and created several strong chances on goal. Their defensive work was particularly impressive; the girls prevented Warwick from entering our attacking D throughout the match. There were some excellent long balls played out from the back, opening up opportunities to send the ball into the D. Despite our pressure, Warwick’s goalkeeper was outstanding and kept us from scoring, but the quality of hockey was superb.

The second match, coached by Ms Somerville, was just as impressive, with the team managing to score three goals! Their attacking play was excellent, and the girls consistently ensured there was a free player ahead of the ball to receive passes, creating plenty of scoring opportunities. They responded well to their coaches’ feedback – passing the ball wide rather than down the middle of the pitch and maintaining their positions on the pitch. Well done girls!
