U9 Rugby v Solihull Prep
The U9s enjoyed a fantastic afternoon of rugby against Solihull Prep School, with four matches taking place two contact and two touch fixtures. Across all games, the boys displayed excellent teamwork, enthusiasm, and sportsmanship. In the contact matches, there was strong tackling and determined running, while the touch teams impressed with quick passing and great support play. Every player showed real progress and a growing understanding of the game. It was a superb effort from all involved, and the spirit and energy throughout the afternoon were a real credit to the team.
U8 Hockey @ RGS
The U8 Girls’ Hockey Festival was a fantastic celebration of participation and enjoyment, with 6 schools and more than 80 Year 3 girls coming together for an afternoon of friendly hockey fixtures. With no scores recorded and no overall winners, the emphasis remained firmly on development, teamwork, and having fun.
The standard of play was excellent throughout, with many impressive passages of passing, determined defending, and enthusiastic attacking on display from all the BCS girls. Most importantly, it was inspiring to see so many young girls taking part, growing in confidence, and embracing the sport. The festival captured the true spirit of junior hockey – energy, inclusivity, and a love of the game.
U11 Hockey v King’s St Alban’s
Ms Patching-Jones’ Team
Players of the Match: Alice and Omi
Result: BCS 3-0
It was a fabulous afternoon of hockey against King’s St Alban’s. Blue Coat got off to a positive start with a long ball played down the side of the pitch by Annaliese and then into Alice in the D, shot taken, it went wide but a great start. King’s pushed back and were defensively quite strong, they had a very quick centre forward who turned the ball over and took it into the D, took a shot but Hannah kicked it away with confidence and we were able to get it out the D.
We had a few chances to score in the first half, Alice and Lia getting opportunities in the D and finally we got the first goal, from a short corner. We continued this great attacking play and manged to score another two – Vivien, Alice and Lia all scored one goal each in the match.
Elsa and Annaliese, in defence, did a great job at closing down their players when they were attacking in our half, showing confidence to put in the tackles. Vivien and Alice in midfield used their speed and accurate long passes into the D to set up goal scoring opportunities. Lia positioned herself correctly, high up the pitch in the D, ready to receive the long balls in and go for goal.
Ms Patching-Jones was very impressed with how the girls listened to her suggestions and feedback and put it into action. Well done girls, a great first match of the term!
U11 Hockey v King’s St Albans
Player of the Match: Anai
Result: BCS 2-1
Coming into this fixture, we knew it would be a real test. Having previously faced King St Alban’s in the RGS Tournament final – where we only broke the deadlock in the last 30 seconds – the girls were fully aware of the challenge ahead, especially in the first week back after half-term.
From the first whistle, however, the team showed impressive composure and purpose. Their quick movement of the ball created frequent advantages, and our link-up play across the pitch demonstrated real maturity. Strong, well-timed tackles helped us regain possession early, allowing us to dictate the tempo of the game.
Because of our dominance across all key skill areas, I was able to rotate players confidently, knowing that every member of the squad would maintain the standard. The teamwork, intensity, and tactical awareness on display were extremely pleasing to see and a clear sign of the progress this group continues to make.
U10 Hockey v Winterfold
Player of the Match: Ishani
Result: BCS 4-0
The U10 girls made a strong start to the term with an excellent 4–0 win against Winterfold. Despite it being our first day back, the team played with great energy and purpose, showing real composure on the ball. Our goals came from superb wing play, stretching the pitch and creating plenty of attacking opportunities. Avaani scored twice with confident finishes, and the whole team contributed to a disciplined and determined performance. A brilliant effort all round and a very encouraging start to the season.
U8 Hockey v Eversfield
This rearranged fixture was eagerly anticipated, and the Year 3 girls were full of excitement as they finally took to the pitch against Eversfield. Their enthusiasm translated into a spirited performance, with every player showing growing confidence and a developing understanding of the game.
The girls demonstrated some good basic hockey skills, from simple passing combinations to determined tackling, and it was encouraging to see how far they have progressed this term. Most importantly, they played with smiles on their faces and clearly enjoyed every moment. A lovely afternoon of hockey and a great reflection of their continued development.
U11 Hockey v Winterfold & King’s Hawford
Result: BCS win 2 matches
Two U11 Blue Coat hockey teams travelled to Winterfold for a triangular tournament with Kings Hawford. The opening match against Winterfold was very close and competitive, with the girls showing great teamwork, spreading out well, and using the width of the pitch to pass effectively. It was a strong performance full of effort and determination. In the second game against Kings Hawford, Blue Coat came up against a powerful and well-organised side. At times, we were a little intimidated and stood off the tackle, but the girls continued to work hard and support one another. A great learning experience!
